i have a win 98 pc with norton antivirus 2002 on it.i got some viruses recently, that are detected, and the infected files are being either deleted or quarantined.one of the files infected is win.ini that i think is important and i don't dare to touch it.the problem is that the virus shows up again and again and i can't get rid of it.

win.ini is important but it is also small.  I'm not sure about Win 98 but in W2K it comes in at about 0.5 K.  You can open it as a text file.  Finding out what doesn't belong should be simple.  It should only have section names in braces and single line arguments along the lines of "WPWINFIL=0x0006" or "asx=MPEGVideo" depending on what section you are looking at.

As I said, I'm not sure about the scope of its use in Win98 but a virus infection should stick out.
