We have an external exchange 5.5 server on our DMZ with our email accounts.
I just installed exchange 2000 in our new AD environment that I also recently installed.
The internal client names are duplicates of the external names.
We are keeping the external 5.5 server for our hosted web sites email support.
I am moving our hosts over one at a time or a small group at a time.
I am also keeping the same domain suffix for our mail accounts during this proccess.
How you may ask?
I am setting up custom recipients on the exchange5.5 and using them to forward the external account emails to the internal accounts via an SMTP conduit in our PIX 515 firewall.
When I have all the clients moved I'll add the appropriate suffix for  the exchange 2000 recipients and change the MX records on our public DNS server.
It is working well so far on the few accounts I've moved.
Does anyone see any problems with this scenario that I may have missed?
