No, we're a Nortel shop, but don't have them.  We're using RadWare right now, and were using Foundry switches for layer 4.  Hopefully we'll get some soon!

Oops, I mean to reply, not start a new thread.

Hi Kasor!  Wink

Nortel is a very large vendor of networking equipment. It has a strong following in the enterprise market and with the carriers - like AT&T, BellSouth, Sprint/Worldcom (yeah, I know they're bank R.), etc.

Cisco is big in the enterprise and downward. Of course they are competitors and Cisco seems to have a better marketing/advertising campaign. Doesn't mean that Nortel and others aren't around though.

Hey all...

Kasar said "I am surprise, people still after Nortel Cert!"

What a moron!  First he can't type.  Second, has he even investigated the value of Nortel Certifications?

The Nortel Networks Certified Design Specialist (NNCDS) is the second highest rated cert in the world according to Certification Magazine!  See the link:

http://www.certmag.com/articles/templates/cmag_feature.asp?articleid=523&zoneid=9

If you want an Alteon cert you should get it.  I have the NNCSS in Alteon, Router, and 8600. I have the NNCDS in Passport 8600.  I haven't done the Design yet for Alteon.

Actually, Rhyous, as of now, a lot of people in the banking and data networking world predict that Nortel will not be handling data within 5 years. Even some engineers (voice) can attest to that.
They have dumped the enterprise and removed all focus from the data world to IP telephony and other voice stuff.
Kasor is right, Nortel isn't considered competition to any other data networking company so why bother?
Even now, they're not doing so hot in the IP telephony sector. Avaya and Cisco have them beat.
There is no way that a company like Nortel could compete with say, Juniper or Cisco. Pick an area (except for carrier voice, that's all nortel has) and I'll tell you how any other company is better.

Also, the cert magazine is based on average salary. How do you know that cert mag could only find 2-3 people that had the cert and they were making good money because its extremely hard to find someone who know nortel? I'm letting everyone know that there may be monetary value attached to this cert, but in the long run, its useless.

BTW, I work in an almost all nortel shop, so I know what I'm talking about and have no bias to another company.
