I just pick  up a cheep compaq laptop
that is working good now that I have removed vista.
It came with vista Sad and it took me a few days to find XP / 2003 server drivers for it.

Running good dual boot XP Pro and server 2003

I view laptops as essentially yuppie toy's, so select one with the longest warranty, and most bell's and whistles for your money.

Avoid Vista if possible, or dump it before trying to use the laptop.
