Thanks for the question bro, we're here to help one another. Look I'm in South Africa, Northwest Province, a village called Baraseba but I survived with international comments from our fellow members of examnotes.net. I think Net+ is an entry level for MCSA and CCNA. MCDST is an entry level of MSCA, MCSE. Good luck with Net+.

I'm A+ Certified and studying for my MCDST as well and get a daily Net+ question from Exam Cram.

Personally I haven't yet come across one which I couldn't answer either because I knew it or it was the most logical answer.  So I would say it's not a particularly difficult exam to pass and I intend to take it once I've passed my MCDST.

My vote is:  Go for the Microsoft Cert., if you have to choose only one!

Fist, my copy of the CompTIA web site does not list a Net+ cert.  There is a Network+ and an i-Net+.  I'm presuming that you are asking about the Network + cert.

When I teach MCDST, I teach A+ and Network+ as a pre-requisits to the MCDST cert.  If you don't understantd A+ and N+, then the MCDST is a large hill to jump over.

In the first place, MCDST is far better known than Network+, and Network+ doesn't go far enough to make you extremely employable - by itself.  When you couple it with MCDST, it makes you a pretty valuable resource.

BTW.  MCDST will only be around as long as XP is a supported OS.  Microsoft has already announced that they will be using a different cert, the 70-620 series, when Vista arrives.  They will have an upgrade exam from MCDST (2 certs) to the new MCTS and MCITP (Enterprise) cert (1 exam).  If you start from the ground up, it will require 2 certs, just like MCDST, that will be 70-620 to get the MCTS (Technician), the choose either 70-622 to get to MCITP (Enterprise) (Microsoft Certified IT Professional) or 70-622 to get to MCITP for GEEKS and SOHO support.

I disagree I think Network+ is better than MCDST. Besides with Network+ you never have to recertify. Just my 2 cents.
