I have been having trouble with the MTA service not starting.  This has been failing ever since I removed the Private/Mailbox store from one of my servers and converted it to a Public store server only.

I have Installed SP3 and tried stopping various services but still no go.

After investigation I stumbled accross this KB article stating that this problem can be caused by not having a Private/Mailbox store.  I created a 'dummy' store on the server and now all is OK...

Thought I would share this with you as it has been causing me trouble.
