Dear all:

When I install the new patch of GFI Mailessential 8.0( a kind of anti-spam software) in our exchange server, it froze in a windows for about 15 minutes, so I have to "cancel" the installation and reinstall it. It seems like good and finished, but after that, all of our client computers can not open the new coming email in OUTLOOK. We can send email out(but very slow), and external customers can receive these email.  The problem is we can see the external email coming in our "inbox" of OUTLOOK but can not open it. And the whole old email before yesterday we can open it.

I try to stopped the GFI software or uninstall it totally, then try to install the new SP3 of Exchange 2000 server. Finally, try to reinstall the Exchange 2000 server. But all of these can not fix this kind of problem: we can not open the new email. I think the GFI software did something to our Exchange 2000.

Thank you very much for any tips.

any error messages on the server or the clients? How about event viewer? Did you contact the makers of the software?

see this error

The ERROR is about MSExchangeDSAccess, it said the "preloadbasedns" and "PRELOADFILTERS" registry keys do not contain the same number.

Hi, all:

Thank all of you guys for help.

Now maybe install a new exchange 2000 server is better than try to find what  is the problem.

So if I just backup the "first storage group" and build a new exchange 2000 computer, can I restore the old data to the new one?

It sounds like rebuilding is the shortest path to getting your users back into their email.

Make sure you have a full backup, including system state.

Hi, all:

I fixed it finally, and I want share my tips here.

It is because my first installation of new build of GFI anti-spam failed, I guess it damaged or conflict with Norton anti-virus for Exchange 2000 which installed in our Exchange 2000 server. So Norton anti-virus blocked every incoming email and we can not open it until I uninstall the Norton.

Oh my God!

Thank you!
