3  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / Server 2003 / Downgrade 2003 Enterprise to Standard. Is possible? on: December 10, 2004, 04:39:29 AM

absolutely agree with you. If it is working without problems, you will spend more time reinstalling and getting the new configuration working than the cost of the software license.

Another way you might approach this is from a disaster recovery perspective. Offer to set up a second system using Windows 2003 Server Standard as a backup or recovery system in the event of a major failure of the current system. If you need Exchange Enterprise for its abilities, it shouldn't be a single point of failure for any organization. You need to have a standby that can come up and run within a day or less.

At least your client will be able to save a bit on the backup system.

Fortunately the client accept the server 2003 enterprise and exchange 2003 enterprise edition. Now we have final licences.

Regarding a fault tolerant system or backup system in the case of a catastrofic failure, we have the server with raid 5 disks and a Ultrium Full Backup daily onsite and offsite. This is not enough?

thanks very much for your words. I will try to explain this to my client...

the exchange server now have 7 months working with cero problems! i believe such configuration must keeped safe instead of made a new install...

Hello my friends. Lot of time out of the forum!! ok... i have a enteprise 2003 edition with dns, dhcp, nav9, gpo and exchange 2003 enterprise edition.

exchange 2003 enterprise is required because the 16gb store limitation on the standard edition.

but the client wants to downgrade server 2003 (not exchange) to standard version.

Is this possible without need to format and reinstall everything from cero?

It sounds like you might be headed for an In-Place upgrade or you will create a new domain with a unique prefix added to the current domain name to support AD.

Jeff please send me a private message. i have a little doubt about dc / dns / exchange...

You could create alias SMTP addresses on your internal exchange and even add additional UPN suffixes to your internal domain.

Stay Safe. Wink

sorry to say this is bad bad bad bad

dual interfaces... internal / external is bad for this situation because when you make a nslookup from the internet, the server report the two address!!!

a cname alias is not recommended for email purposes.. a MX must report to a clean named server.

check and to see how this people atack and put warnings to servers with cnames!!!

It does say that a server can be called Internet but it didn't state whether that server can be a DC.

thanks for your response....

but is a real fact!! i prepare 3 pilots servers... and we have THE SAME error on every server we prepare with the INTERNET name....

if we change the name to any other name... everything is fine... what do you believe?

I install a Veritas DVD writing software. Finally, i decide to uninstall such software because i prefer other packages.

After uninstall, i have some problems, so i need to use System restore.

The restore process takes 30 minutes on my xp 2400+ system!!...

Everything seems good after the restore was taking place... but what is the surprise? System restore DELETE every PDF, JPG and DOC file on my hard disk!! i??m talking about YEARS of documments and important pictures, family stuff, working projects, etc.

anybody knows whats happen? what i can do to restore? of course this is the LAST time i use system restore.

i have a backup of my system from 2 or 3 months ago.. but i believe i lost valuable data!  stupid XP
