1  General discussions / Hardware / Disconnecting DVD Drive on: July 07, 2006, 11:57:50 AM
I have been trying to disconnect a faulty and noisy DVD drive from my computer (O.P Window 2000) but without success. I have used Add/Remove Hardware in the Control Panel to uninstall/unplug the device, and then disconnected the power cable and the interface (data) cable, which are feeding the drive. I turned the computer on but did not boot up. I connected only the data cable to the back of the drive and again the computer did not boot up.

The interface cable is connecting the hard drive, CD drive, and DVD drive.

Any ideas??
Sad

Every time I want to start the Microsoft shortcut (desktop) bar using office Win 2000, I get the following messages:

Preparing the desktop bar

has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.

When I rerun the Office shortcut bar program I get the same error messages. This error only appears on Administrator account profile, but not with others two accounts.

Thanks Afalbrig for the reply
Yes, the stop code is always starts with 0x0000001E and started when I upgraded to AOL broadband. Anyway, I have ditched AOL already. It might solve my problem as you mentioned.
I would let you know and indeed all this site users if I manage to solve it.

thanks again

Anyone knows how to debug /decode a dump file (binary file). I need a file, which I can open this dump file (minidump or kernel)with in order to read it and analyse it. Where I can find such tool any idea??

I made 31 Tel. calls to AOL since Jan 05, but they could not solve the problem. So I am leaving AOL soon. I might be the end of my suffering!!

The Internet disconnection problem is due to BT ADSL Modem. Both my laptop and desktop computers have the same problem when using AOL.9 Broadband program.

However, only the desktop computer crashes with BSOD when connection to the Internet interrupts or signing on and off few times.

I have checked 106 installed drivers using DriversMAGIC program and all working fine.
Again, no Memory errors were found before and after adding 256 MB RAM. No hardware problems and all been included in the HCL.
It could be sort of conflict as suggested above. I wish I knew

The BSOD problem often happens when I log off or trying to log on again to AOL 9 Broadband when line disconnect occurs. This happens about 5 ‘«Ű 10 minutes after logging in (If I am stay inactive online‘«Ű Timeout Factor) thereafter the connection is interrupted and then lost. If these disconnection events repeat 2 or 3 times the computer crash and the Blue Screen of Death appears‘«™Despite that I can not spot the source (driver, device‘«™) of the problem. How to find it

10  General discussions / General Discussion / Editing offline outlook files on: March 10, 2005, 10:05:27 AM
I use Windows 2000 with XP office on my laptop.  I use Outlook 2002 (XP) SP3 for emails but when working with offline files if I create a message and then go to the outbox to edit it, I cannot then 'send' it.  I use the 'send' button when I have completed the editing but it does not change the message into a sendable format.  Also when I create the message when in my inbox, it goes to the outbox in sendable form but as soon as I switch from the inbox to the outbox, at least one of the messages stored in the outbox is turned into a non-sendable form.  If I move the cursor up or down the list of messages each one that is highlighted is immediately changed into a non-sendable form. Once this has happened I can find no way to get such messages back into a sendable form. I have search the MS website but can find no info on this.

I run FSecure virus checker continuously and have no viruses detected.

Any idea how to solve this??

My connection to AOL 9.0 Broadband Silver keep interrupting me every 10 minutes or so and log me off when the connection is idle (e.g. when I am not opening new web page). This has been happening since last Friday and it is driving me mad!! It was working fine since I upgraded to Broadband 2 months ago. My O.S is Win 2000 Prof.
The AOL IT support could not solve the problem and every time I call they (countless calls) come up with new suggestion despite the fact that I think they might set The Connection Idle time Limit. I have tried the following:
Disable the Mcafee V 4.5 Firewall
Repair the AOL connectivity services program
Turn off the Power Management
AOL disconnecting Auto Fix, Computer Check & AOL Broadband Check
Check the physical connections to Modem (BT Voyager 105), Filters‘«™etc
Install AOL 9.0 on my lap top computer, which has no Firewall software installed

I was told that opening a Messenger program and keep chatting online would solve the problem, but this is not a good and permanent way to solve it. Can anyone tell me what the problem is? What else I coul do to solve this problem. Please help.
Many Thanks

After trying few solutions to get ride of the above error message, I had to disable chkdsk utility, which is run from a command prompt as follows:
chkntfs /x c: This disables chkdsk from running on drive C
This solves the problem for now.
Thanks to WPFossil, exit12 and enforcer
