2  General discussions / General Discussion / Sharing folders.. and hiding them! on: November 22, 2007, 08:06:23 AM
Hi,

Im trying to find some way of doing the following. Basically I have a shared folder called "DATA" on a Windows 2003 AD server

Users are mapped to "DATA". There are folders within DATA called 123, ABC and XYZ

A user called Mary has only access to the folder 123 but this is my question.. Is there a way of hiding the two other folders ABC and XYZ from Mary as she has no access to them and there is no point in showing them to her. I basically want her to see DATA and when she clicks into it, she only sees the folder 123 and nothing else.

Any ideas how this can be done? The server is Windows 2003 Server

Thanks Wink
3  General discussions / General Discussion / Just a quicky question on: September 10, 2007, 07:06:25 AM
Just a quick question, see if anyone has any ideas.

We have an exchange 2000 server. I have created a Public Folder called "Recycle Ltd"

I have setup 5 internal email accounts to forward their messages to this public folder. This works perfectly. So any emails that goto these 5 addresses on our exchange server go into this public folder

Then I wanted some people to be able to access the folder. They can! Ok now I want them to be able to reply to the emails within the public folder BUT I want the reply emails to go into the public folder aswell

So basically, Joe goes into the public folder, looks at the emails within it. Opens one, replies to it.. and the reply appears within the same public folder for other users to see

Hope this makes sence

Its the reply's that I am having problems with, they show up in the users sent items instead of the public folder.

Any help would be great
4  General discussions / General Discussion / Just a quick one about groups on: March 13, 2007, 10:52:45 AM
Hi there, Kinda bit confused on this one. Im in windows 2000 domain, active directory. Im on one of our servers which is not a domain controller. right click on a folder, share out and try give security permissions to a user group called "traintrack" but windows comes back with an error:

Name not found:
an object named "traintrack" cannot be found (i am 100% sure its a group in AD). Check the selected object types and location accuracy and ensure that you typed the object name correctly, or remove this object from the selection.

I have other groups that work and can get access no problem, but their Global groups in active directory. TrainTrack is a Domain Local group. Any ideas? Its been a while since i messed around with different kind of groups.
5  General discussions / General Discussion / Imaging a SCSI drive on: November 27, 2006, 01:04:31 PM
hardware RAID 5. I have 5 harddrives in the array. Tried booting to norton ghost but it only see's the whole array instead of individual partitions, like it see's a 700Gig disk instead of C D (100gigs) and E (600gigs)
6  General discussions / General Discussion / Imaging a SCSI drive on: November 23, 2006, 05:52:38 AM
Does anyone know of a software application that will make an image backup of a SCSI harddrive partition?

Basically I have a 700 GIG RAID5 array (5disks).  The Array has 3 partitions on it, C D and E

E has all the data on it and is backed up already onto tape so I dont want to spend time making an image of 600 gigs of data!!
So all i want is an image of C and D so that I can restore the operating system and program files from an image

Does anyone know of any programs that can do this. I know norton ghost can do it on IDE drives but im not having much success with SCSI drives
7  General discussions / General Discussion / service causing system to hang on: August 17, 2005, 11:14:05 AM
hi all,

I have an NT4 server (I know I know) which is having some problems. There are two services that are causing the system to hang. I cannot stop them in the services tab, and cannot change their startup profile as they are trying to start but not quite there (if I try change its startup profile to disabled, I get 'service database locked'). If I go into the windows diagnostic, it tells me the two services are 'pending start'.

So I want to stop these services from even trying to start on a reboot, but even in VGA mode they try to start up. I cant uninstall the program (APC powerchute) as it hangs when its trying to stop the service. Is there a place in the reg where I can disable the service?

ok thanks. '.JS' files not being associated with the Windows script host may be causing the problem aswell. I'm trying to find out how to associate them to windows again

Anyone know what this AutoTURN is? in exhange 2003 SMTP virtual server, current sessions?

I see 'AutoTURN' 159.134.118.26 and it stays connected to the server for a long time which usually means relay-spam?:

No matter how many times i terminate AutoTURN, it comes back with the same IP and stays connected to the server
Any ideas ?

Has anyone used this program(logmein.com)?  Its like PCanywhere or VNC. It allows you to take complete control of a remote PC, as if you were  sitting in front of the PC, the nice bit of it is that the client only needs a webBrowser to take control of the PC, plus there is no firewall configuration needed at all.  I'm a field engineer so it would be handy to install this onto the servers if I ever needed to go back. Configuring the firewall's and paying for Vpn clients is to much hassle, plus this logmein software is free...

My only concern is the security issue, has anyone used this before?  I'm trying to see how this program works, I mean there's no configuring of the firewall needed...? You just install the app onto the server or workstation, click next, next.. finish. Thats it. Then you just log in from another site using IE with username and pass...
12  General discussions / General Discussion / outlook problem? on: December 22, 2004, 04:57:22 PM
Just a quick question for yas,  I have a user with Outlook 2002. In the last day or two a problem has started. If she receives a HTML email and tries to print it, the writing goes off the edge of the page.  Its as if the printer is printing the wrong size page (it is set for A4).  If the girl receives a Plain text email, its fine printing.  The only solution I have at the moment is to copy all the email into Word, and then print the word file.

Any idea?
