33  CompTIA / A+ forum / Anyone still taking the cert these days? on: June 08, 2009, 10:16:54 AM
Yeah, wayyyyy back.  But people seem to like that stuff. I just have to figure out how long before posting answers. Or maybe have a locked forum for posting answers.

Actually selling it. I'm not a mechanic/electrical engineer and the electrical system is at fault for most of what is wrong with it.  Had it in to a good auto electric guy and he told me there are problems every where and would be pretty pricey to fix all the problems.

usually gets a double coat of wax then a clear coat finish.  The official color is Toreador Red. When the right side got scraped in a parking lot, I took it to a dozen paint shops. No one could get even close to replicating the paint job and said I'd have to completely repaint it.

These pics were taking about a year and a half ago at my friend Brian's house (he's the guy in the two pics.) He is maniacal detailer so I go there and buy the beer and let him spend hours going over every minor detail

My son turned 15 this past weekend and we had planned to go see it, but my 97 Mark VIII chose that day to take a huge dump.

We stayed home and played WoW instead with plans to see it this week once the car is out of the shop
41  General discussions / General Discussion / XP to VISTA on: May 14, 2009, 12:49:34 PM
You'll want to spend a little time researching if you decide to upgrade to Windows 7. Long Zheng started a bit of a fire when he pointed out a huge security flaw in how 7 handles UAC.

http://www.istartedsomething.com/20090130/uac-security-flaw-windows-7-beta-proof/

After having the flaw pointed out to them, Microsoft responded that they would not make any changes to the kinder, gentler UAC. In essence, applications can install themselves without asking your permission.  That's something of a concern in my book.

I wrote about it in the March issue of The Cert Times, where Zheng took a shot at the journalists who were a big part of the change in philosphy from the folks in Redmond.

"Microsoft currently is standing by their position on UAC, and in many ways I understand the decision. Zheng singled out tech journalists who complained about the UAC annoyance in Vista, pointing out that by doing what the media asked Microsoft invariably created a potentially massive security risk. As one of those who cried wolf, I suppose that is the reason for this issues mea culpa."
42  General discussions / General Discussion / Internet Explorer 8 Released on: May 14, 2009, 12:20:22 PM
That's always the problem with new browsers. Web sites have to develop to them, and IE8 isn't high on a lot of people's list.

Another reason to stick with IE7 for now

I don't think the "protective" is the problem. I think it's the way UAC has been developed. If you don't like it, wait til Windows 7 comes out. Then you'll have the opposite problem, with apps having the ability to bypass UAC and install themselves without your knowledge

This should be fun
44  General discussions / General Discussion / Which is better XP or Vista? on: May 13, 2009, 11:46:09 AM
Hands down XP.  Remember the "Vista Capable" campaign? Vista's Aero graphics wouldn't work with some of Intels graphics processors?
45  General discussions / General Discussion / Vista!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on: April 15, 2009, 04:13:00 PM
IF I am reading you correctly, you want to reformat the drive, dump Vista and install XP?  Or do you want to dual boot?
