1  CompTIA / Server + / Just failed on: February 24, 2002, 05:49:28 PM
I've been wanting to take this one. I like the CompTIA exams! Always up for a challenge.

I guess I will have to prove that CCNPs CAN pass the Server+! LOL...Cheesy Cheesy
2  General discussions / General Discussion / does anyone put brain bench certs on there resume? on: February 24, 2002, 05:14:23 PM
I disagree. I believe that Brainbench is a good investment. By the way, the exams are no longer free. The site now charges $99.00 for a full year of access to all their exams.

Brainbench exams are beneficial to the certification seeker as they test your knowledge of a particular area as related to your certification. They also assess your strengths and weaknesses in a given subject. I found their Checkpoint CCSA equivalent to be harder than the actual exam, and it did help prepare me better.

Also, we shouldn't forget that with all the paper certs out there, companies are now testing would-be applicants on-site! Employers use Brainbench tests to see what knowledge an applicant possesses. Don't be surprised when you fill out a job application and the Employer asks you to take an exam so they can properly assess your skills and see if you qualify for the job. These exams will fall under a different name instead of Brainbench though (even though Brainbench sponsors it), you will receive a PIN and proceed to a secured site at 123assess.

Go here and smell the roses...

BE PREPARED!!!

5  Cisco / CCNP / Passed BCRAn with 1 Q :) on: February 14, 2002, 09:29:23 PM
Congratualtions!!! I found this test hard also. Good advice for everyone. Study hard for this one. I had about 15 command line questions where you type in the correct answer.
6  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-088 / Passed Today on: February 14, 2002, 05:25:20 PM
Congratulations on the pass! I am working on this one. Any pointers??
7  Cisco / CCNP / Passed CIT with 931 score...CCNP!! on: February 14, 2002, 05:11:03 PM
Thanks for the words everyone!

Up next for me is the MCSE+I for NT 4.0. I can still do the exams. I only have three to do. After that I will pursue MCT and CCSE.

PhD? Thanks, but I don't have a PhD. I do l this test is a challenge though. It covers a lot of material from the previous three exams. Chodan and Peterd are right on! If you do CIT last it will be easier for you to understand as it focuses on previously learned material from the other three exams.
8  Cisco / CCDA/CCDP / Passed CID on: February 13, 2002, 07:50:38 PM
WOW! 20 minutes? That's pretty fast!

At least you passed.

Congrats!
9  Cisco / CCNP / Passed CIT with 931 score...CCNP!! on: February 13, 2002, 07:45:09 PM
It's finally over. Today I passed the final exam 640-506 CIT. I felt it was the easier exam of the four and I believe my score shows that. Order of difficulty from the most difficult to the easiest in my opinion...

1 - Routing (640-503)
2 - Remote Access (640-505)
3 - Switching (640-504)
4 - CIT (640-506)

I have been working on this since Dec 1999. I read books, study guides, cramsession, forums, practice questions, transcenders, and used CCNP virtual router sims. I also took classes about a year ago and actually used routers and catalyst switches, so I got hands-on. I also have access to test labs at work. These tests have been very demanding. I am going to finish my MCSE+I for NT 4.0 and then get my MCT.

GOOD LUCK to you all. Thanks to everyone at this forum for posting.
10  Other IT certifications / Check Point / Ccse Exam Notes on: February 12, 2002, 09:05:59 AM
I believe for the CCSA, that will suffice. Make sure you understand the commands to use with the software. That is what Checkpoint is testing you on. It is hard to pass without actually using the product.

For CCSE, it is better to have the manuals. They cost about $100-$300 on EBAY.

My materials for CCSE include:

1) Phoneboy's book: "Essential Checkpoint Firewall-1: An Installation, Configuration, and Troubleshooting Guide" - by Dameon D. Welch-Abernathy.

2) VPN-1/Firewall-I Management-II Offcial Manual

3) Boson Practice Exam #2

and...

use this website - http://www.phoneboy.com/

GOOD LUCK.
11  Cisco / CCNP / registered for bcran on: February 12, 2002, 08:37:33 AM
Hi, I wrote this one last week and passed. I had an enormnous amount of command line questions; about 15. KNOW YOUR COMMANDS. Also, know Frame Relay, ISDN, and X.25, as these are what they focus the majority of the questions on.

GOOD LUCK

13  Other IT certifications / Check Point / Ccse Exam Notes on: February 11, 2002, 11:04:51 AM
Hi, I have tried the Suresh notes for CCSA and they are okay. It is basically information and a lot of practice questions. A good study aid to get you used to the type of questions that you may be asked on the exam.

You can't pass this exam looking at this material though. You need a good study aid like Phoneboy's book.
14  General discussions / Certifications and IT jobs/Salaries / where's my raise on: February 09, 2002, 08:27:37 AM
Hi, Not that many IT people were given raises this year no matter what you know or accomplished the previous year. The job market is very tight right now.

Just be glad you have a job!

I know a lot of MCSE, CCNA, N+, A+, types etc. working at Help Desk positions making a measly $6.00 - $10.00 /hr! (They were making $60,000.00 before the Tech sector took a plunge).
15  Cisco / CCNP / passed by a hair on: February 02, 2002, 07:01:19 PM
Congrats Timmy!! What's next? What do you have yet to study?
