3  Other IT certifications / CISSP / How does ISC2 book compare to Shon Harris on: March 16, 2004, 12:52:10 AM
worth listening & watching if you haven't already...

The CISSP certification from A to Z - Expert Webcast

:-)

p.s. i am reading the Sybex Book. It's okay so far. I also got the Official ISC2 guide - which i will read afterwards. hopefully this should be enough as far as books go.
4  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / Server 2003 / Which one is the easiest Mcse2003 exam..... (from other forum) on: March 15, 2004, 02:17:39 PM
sorry slinthi. i stand corrected.

i am not sure i would agree with classifying the different exams based on easyness.

i think it comes down to what you know best. i remember when i was doing my mcse 2k track, i found the networking exam 70-216 easier in some respects than the 70-210 or 70-215.
5  CompTIA / Other CompTIA certifications / CompTIA IT Project+ Certification Update on: March 15, 2004, 12:08:59 PM
As many of you know (or should know), the CompTIA IT Project+ Certification has been updated recently.

Many of the IT Project+ study guides out there are 1st edition. Wait for the updated 2nd edition study guides to come out before you book and take the exam. You don't want to fail the exam because you were studying from the wrong study guide. There seems to be a bit of change in focus between the PKO-001 and 002.

Sybex's IT Project+ Study Guide, 2nd Edition (PKO-002) is coming out in or around May 21, 2004. I don't know the status with other  publishers.

Good luck.

70-210 is supposed to be the easiest. or the 70-290 which would be the 2003 equivalent.

check the below site. looks like you have a lot of options of which exam to pursue.

I whole heartedly agree. Someone should be removing the dumper spam from this site. i don't think it's good business to be associated in any way with dumpers. if icertify can do a good job of it, i don't see why examnotes can't do the same.
8  General discussions / General Discussion / Can't connect to Web on: March 15, 2004, 01:31:24 AM
the first thing i would do is restart everything. see if the problem goes away.

failing that, i would say there is a filter  block on somewhere. it sounds like there are a few network divices.  you might have something on somewhere. are you sure you checked everything?

the last thing, and this is a last resort.

i have noticed strange behavior of TCP/IP stack in win2k and xp when changing TCP/IP settings very fast. when doing it with vb scripts. sometimes it completely locks up all activity. the only way to unlock is reboot with disconnected cable and disable then re-enable LAN connection.

i think what the poster is trying to say is that perhaps you have a DNS problem. if you can access a web page by IP address but not name, thats usually an indication.

11  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-214 / 70-214 moderately challenging, marginally useful on: March 14, 2004, 04:04:01 PM
from the people that i know that have taken it, it'a mostly a lot of PKI and EFS questions.

I personally find MS DNS best practices and design recommendations a lot challenging, especially when they word it in a Design elective format.
12  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / Server 2003 / Passed 296 Today on: March 14, 2004, 01:24:31 PM
I found the 070-292 an unexpectedly easy exam.

I had many very simple questions on shadow copies. The rest was a mish-mash between DNS, ASR and IIS 6.x (the very simple stuff!).

That said, I think you need to study and know the Skills Being Measured  section before taking the exam.

I used mostly TechNet and MS MOC's from a course I attended. The MOC's were pretty useless.

Also, definatly setup a Win2k3 test server and play around with the product before sitting the exam.

why aren't you posting this on the windows 2003 forum?

don't be so worried. it's not that hard of an exam.

Win9x is single threaded user OS. only one user can be logged on doing whatever they are doing.

Win2k onwards is multiuser threaded. many users can be logged on at the same time doing different things on the underling OS. Similar to *nix based OS articecture.

makes for a much more complicated OS - so you can't even compare the 2 OS's.
