3  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-218 / Failed 70-218-Passed 70-218 >>> on: October 11, 2004, 01:29:02 PM
Well I sat my final paper this morning to try and achieve the MCSA status.

Failed with a score of 628

I was pissed off and felt I could and should have done better.

I spoke with the testing centre about doing a retake straight away, they said they had slots free. Called Prometric, who said a credit card payment would take 24hrs to clear and see if the test centre could arrange it for you via a credit they have with Prometric.

Testing centre didn‘«÷t want to know Sad      arses Sad

So

I decided to ring Prometric and blag it.  I spoke with a different person who more or less said the same thing. But she looked at my account and said she would see what she could do for me as a one off.

She came back and said pay now and they will allow me to sit it straight away. WoOt.

So after the test centre downloaded the new exam, I was back in the hot seat again. All be it a different more lucky chair.

Sat the exam and passed with 748 Yipppppppppppppeeeeeeee.

No more certs for me, I think (Know).

MCSA now Smiley

Thanks to evb for your support and yes I do feel like the man of the moment Smiley Cheesy Smiley

5  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-218 / Urgent 70-218 Exam Opinion on: October 08, 2004, 07:26:05 PM
The facts are as follows:

I only need the 70-218 to gain my MCSA.

I have studies the CompTIA A+, Net+ 70-215 and 70-270.

Been studying the 70-218 for 6 weeks. I have just completed the Learnkey 70-218 CBT, but just bought the Sybex 70-218 book that I have completed the first chapter on.

It seem like the 70-218 is a mixture of topics that I have covered in passed exams. I have just found out I have a day off on Monday. I have this window of opportunity that I could use to go take the exam.

Question = Should I go for it now or finish the book.

PS. Pass all other exams first time.

Should I give it a crack now?
6  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-218 / ADSL and 6 PC Question Plz on: October 01, 2004, 03:15:53 PM
Post subject: >>

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am in the process of setting up a Domain.

One Win2003 SB Server (DC)

6 XP Boxes.

One 3Com switch

and One D-link 4 Port Modem/router.

Would a 512 ADSL connection be fine for 6 PC to share?

and what would be the best way to get them all out on the net?

Maybe Server > Switch> 6 PC and Router plugged into the switch?

Thanks for any assitance.

NOTE:- Modem/Router does DHCP, but i'll allow the server to do this instead.
7  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-218 / Network Printer Issues HelP on: September 17, 2004, 02:54:24 PM
Hello Gentlemen.

I administer a W2K domain (AD). Consists of a W2K domain controller, 100 W2K workstations and 2 network printers.

Several weeks ago one of the printers, a HP LaserJet 2200 DN, stops printing and became inaccessible via the network. I have tried patching it into other ports, but no luck. I attached it locally via a para cable to a workstation and it prints with no problems.

I have now changed the internal HP Jet direct 610N card, but still the same problem prevails....

The printer does not show up in AD, thus unable to install it. Printer is in accessible from any workstation.

Can anyone give me any pointers? Does these print server cards need configuring via a web based GUI?

Any assistance appreciated

10  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-218 / DHCP Question on: September 05, 2004, 07:39:56 PM
Thanks ducks for that well thought out and drafted reply. That has given me some real food for thought...

They don't currently own a domain or one that they know the details of, so i am in the process of costing one for them.

I understand they wish to use the MS Exchange built into SBS for centralization of e-mails.  So i guess a Domain name and some hosted pop3 e-mail accounts will come in handy. Am i right?

Once again i thank u
11  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-218 / DHCP Question on: September 05, 2004, 10:11:08 AM
I will be setting up a Windows 2003 Small Business Server running AD.

The domain will consist of 10 workstations and a printer.

The currently just have 2 workstation that connects to the internet wirelessly using a Netgear 54g router/modem. This router does DHCP and NAT.

My questions is, when i set up the domain, should i continue to allow the router to give DHCP, fix the router and servers address? or

Allow the server to provide all DHCP?

Please could some explain the pros and cons of each method and wheich one is best to go with?

Many thanks in advance Smiley

14  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / Windows XP exams / Power Management XP limitations ? on: August 29, 2004, 07:00:52 PM
I found that they have to be a power user of above to make this settings hold. I believe it's just a limitation of the normal user account.
