1  CompTIA / A+ forum / Frustrated on A+ on: March 16, 2004, 03:31:04 AM
A M E N,, Smiley

I passed the Core with 798 on my first try, only because I had taken apart and reassembled countless working and non working pcs. both in class and at home and for friends.

if you can find anyone you know who has some simple problems with their PC, Be a Friend and help yourself by Working on their PC and finding out what it is that's wrong; when you can diagnose you are ready to move on to narrowing down the possibilities. after several instances with common issues that are tricky, like a mobo grounding itself out and or some peripheral being on the wrong irq you'll be ready to take the exam with reasonable confidence.

I hate getting chips in my nails because I am a Woman, so I make sure that I have a good idea of what's wrong before I go poking around in there moving and replacing stuff and damaging my pretty natural nails.
Vanity, is a great reinforcement tool,
oh yes it isssss,, I always "read the FreeManual"  ;-0

Good Luck

if you can, try to find an old 486 or better yet, a 386. or at least try to get one that has win 3.11 on it, so you can manually setup all the components.

i think hands on experience is extremely valuable. the troublespots you listed are all detailed pretty well in most text books but you obviously arent getting the info down.

it only takes 30 seconds to read a paragraph on standard IRQ settings, but it takes 15 minutes to set the IRQ's (more or less) on a machine...

i guess im saying that a 15 minute event will probably stick in your mind better than a 30 second event. the reason i say 15 minutes is that you probably wont get everything right the first time around which is good. my mistakes seem to stick in my head much longer than things i do that go off without a hitch. and that reason goes back to how much time is invested.

when i was assembling systems at intel, we had very detailed written instructions that we were required to bring up when working. well, i could sit there and read all day, but i had to build a couple systems before i could say i knew what i was doing.

and that is true for most people. lets face it, when we find a writer of subject type that can fully and concisely explain a process that EVERYONE can understand, we will have found a true master.

Thanks for the Reply Dr.C.

Since you asked,,,,
I went to Yahoogroups and created a new group specifically for the chats.
it's called A Plus Tech Test Chat.
the location is Aplus-tech-techchat on Yahoogroups

I hope to see others join in, so that we can schedule regular chats to discuss questions; and conduct Live Braindumps; with those who have just taken the Exams, and want to share their experience and knowledge with the rest of us, who are still in the preparation stages.

I invite Everyone to Join in and help us to form a working chat group which will focus on TEST Prep and Issues specific to being a Women in Technology.

Cheers,

How about forming an A+ Study Group Chat ?

How about forming an A+ Chat Study Group which would meet once a week ?

anyone who's interested - PLEASE, post a reply and maybe we will have enough interested members to get together to chat once a week to work through test questions and other "Women Tech" related issues.

I'd be happy to be available for this type of group at least one night a week.

Anyone Else Interested Huh?

Speak Up Ladies !!!!
