1  Other IT certifications / Citrix CCA, CCEA / Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 on: August 04, 2006, 06:18:31 PM
I just sat the 1256bi course this week to get some familiarity with Citrix for a new system we'll be installing @ work so I thought I'd see if anyone is lurking in this forum. I may or may not take the exam but anyway, hey! Cheesy

Thanks to Admin for the reminder email.

3  Cisco / CCNA / 2811 IOS options? on: September 20, 2005, 06:08:14 PM
good point, I should have put that in another forum... back in the day all of these forums seemed to have enough activity and cross-over that I would have seen something from someone... anyhow, I got it figured out via the Cisco forums. Smiley

gotta have a IOS with a K in the version.

wow, is this place a ghost town or what?
5  Cisco / CCNA / 2811 IOS options? on: September 17, 2005, 08:11:51 PM
please don't blast me if anything of this nature has been discussed, i tried to search but it appears all busted up. Smiley

I have a Cisco 2811 Router, it's stock, no additional cards, yet. It shipped with the IP-Base IOS. I want to put 12.4.3(LD) ENTERPRISE SERVICES on it. Will that alone get me FW and VPN abilities? Or do I have to add a card for either/both of these?
6  CompTIA / Server + / server antivirus on: February 14, 2005, 07:09:45 PM
sure, you can pretty much use any Windows server OS as a workstation and I don't recall any AV package that wouldn't install on a server OS... as a matter of fact, i installed McAfee AV on a 2003 server 2 nights ago.

What it comes down to is if you want the added managability of what a server package provides you. At work I have SAVCE (Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition) installed on a server, then the workstation client on all the PCs and they are managed back to that server. I can then manage all 1000+ workstations remotely through that server (an MMC interface). I can check the version of the client, the virus defs on each, which PC has a virus or not, etc etc.

believe me Silky, i would rather do that. thing is, right now i'm in the middle of finishing my bachelor's degree, the work i'm doing right now doesn't really require it, and i have some other certifications that are more relevant to my work that i intend to work on as well. so, don't have the time right now i guess.

Sad
8  Cisco / CCNA / advice on 640-801 on: February 04, 2004, 04:44:24 AM
Hey guys,

it's been a million years but i think i'm going to refresh my CCNA before it expires this summer.

i think i'll get the Cisco Press kit by Odom and the Sybex Lammle (4e) book. i briefly browsed some of the threads and Cisco's site and it appears that this 3.0 version of the test is a bit different. i'm not doing much with routers these days but some switch stuff still. the actual work (the way i do it) isn't so rusty but i know the router and 'cisco-way' of doing things will be.

if you were able to compare/contrast 640-507 (i think that's what i took) and this new test, where would you say the major differences are?

thanks guys. should be seeing you all here off and on for a bit. Cheesy
9  Cisco / CCNA / For ppl that have passed this exam ... on: February 04, 2004, 04:37:20 AM
i think many people will say 'yes' to your question (as that was one of the popular authors when i got my ccna 3 years ago). they'll probably say to ALSO get this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0782143113/qid=1075878936/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1_1/026-9041317-5299640

i'm due for updating my CCNA this summer and will probably get both of these. i used the Todd Lammle book 3 years ago along with the Cisco Press ICND book and did super with them.

get the both (the Cisco kit and the Sybex one) and read them in tandem (similar sections from each) to cover any areas where the other may not.

transcripts come in handy for company reimbursment purposes and for your own progress/timeline tracking, imho.

i know, the post is over and done but i think it's nice to know the built-in MSCs. fsmgmt.msc is for shares (File System Management). or, make your own and save it in %systemroot%\system32\ and type it's name in start run or from a command-line. Cheesy

(search for *.msc to find all of them on your computer.)
