1  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-221 / Passed 221. Just in case anyone looks here... on: August 31, 2005, 03:06:40 PM
I know there's no posting going on here, but I passed 70-221 yesterday first try with a 836.
I had Blue Sky, State Univ., Municipal Hospital & Parnell Aerospace.

45 questions, plenty of time.

On to 70-218 to complete my certification on obsolete software & get both MCSA & MCSE on 2000...

The only reason I'm sticking on this track is for the 2 upgrade tests to 2003 MCSE & whichever for MCSA 2003.

It's amazing how much easier, or at least smoother, this exam was the second time around. Once you see the actual cases and go through them it makes that much better I guess.

3  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-219 / Over the hurdle, passed 70-219 on: May 31, 2005, 02:42:58 PM
At long last, and after 1 fail, I passed 219 with a 792 on my second try. It still had some b.s. questions that made little sense, but I guess I had enough good ones to balance it out. Scheduled it for the last day of the free retake program just in case.

On to either 70-218 managing 2k environment and my MCSA or 70-221 designing 2k infrastructure, I'm not sure yet. I haven't looked over 221 to see if having 219 fresh in my head will help.

4  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-219 / Scheduled 70-219 for 21DEC on: December 27, 2004, 09:28:04 PM
I went through the full Testout 219 CBT and practice exams. I've used them on 210,215,216 and 217 as well. Also went over CBT Nuggets, read through Technet Win2000 resource kit infrastructure section chapters 9 & 10 as suggested by someone on this forum, and flipped through the Exam Cram book for 219. I didn't go through all it's step by steps. Also went through most of an MSPress book in a class I had taken in college.

The clients I work with are small businesses with no need for multiple domains let alone forests. I thought I had a pretty good grip on the foundation of it, but couldn't quite put the pieces of the case study together. I know that's what killed me.

Testout has a guarantee if you pass 2 of their "tests" and fail the MS test they will reimburse you, but we bought the whole cert bundle over a year ago and now that I need to redeem the guarantee I see it's only good for a year from purchase. Still trying to weasel the $125 out of them anyway.

5  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-219 / Got 539 needed 700 on: December 21, 2004, 05:44:30 PM
My day started off getting to the test site 20 minutes early. There was one other tester there for a MCDBA test sometime before mine and he was waiting. Not good. The test site was having trouble downloading the tests from Thomson Prometric. After screwing around for 45 minutes they had me call Thomson to try and cancel my test, get a refund and reschedule with VUE, because they do their tests as well. Since it was after my scheduled time to take the test Thomson pretty much told me to piss off. I scheduled with VUE anyway and took the test. Found out afterwards I'll be getting the $$ back from Thomson.

On the plus side, they give you credit for your correct answers, even if the whole question isn't correct. On the minus side I didn't get enough of them.
4 testlets 8-10 questions each. Very cryptic I thought. The questions are based on the design they did for the case, but you don't know what that is. If your design isn't the same and you answer questions that way, your wrong.
The other tests give you the design and you have to say if it works or not. I found it very hard to pull the data out of the case studies. I knew it would be tough, but tougher to do it than I thought, I guess.
6  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-219 / Scheduled 70-219 for 21DEC on: December 13, 2004, 04:49:07 PM
I figured if I didn't soon I may never push myself into it.

Let the countdown begin...
7  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-219 / Is anyone else actually still studying for -219? on: November 09, 2004, 03:54:31 PM
I've got this one and 2 more. Probably 218 & 221. Been studying off & on for 219 and think I have the concepts down, but haven't mastered the case study test method yet.
I've thought about backing off and doing a different one next, but I'll still have to come back to it eventually.

Good luck.

Just checking since there is no activity here.
9  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / Server 2003 / Help Permissions: Taking Test Friday! on: June 03, 2004, 11:45:06 AM
Here is a list of the errata for that book. It doesn't show anything "wrong" on that page number though. FYI for future reference.;en-us;829352

Page to search for MSPress ISBN # for corrections:

PS- How'd the test go?
10  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-216 / How to set up Exchange Server 2000 to download mail from external mail server? on: May 10, 2004, 11:42:43 AM
Sounds like you need a POP3 connector. Exchange doesn't come with one unless you have Small Business Server. Try going to and look for a tool that works for you.

I've used Transcender before and wasn't thrilled, but didn't use it this time.

Good luck.

Thanks for the chapters tip.

Thanks Jeff.
Yes, 219 is on deck staring me down.
14  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-217 / passed 70-217 on: October 22, 2003, 03:26:46 PM
I passed 217 this morning.
No brain dumps used. Mainly experience and Testout! cbt's.

As someone else pointed out in their  "I passed" post, the questions were very wordy.
Question breakdown:
40% DNS
30% GPO
15% Sites & connectors
10% "improve AD performance"
5% misc.

0% FSMO roles, which surprised me.
15  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-215 / Change spooler location on: March 28, 2003, 03:51:59 PM
In a way I guess it's both.

Q-I've seen in several study materials that say you can change the spool location in the advanced tab of the printer properties. I've never seen printer properties that showed this, has anyone else?

A- Although you can change the location for the spooler for individual printers, it's not through the advanced tab of anything, it's through the registry. You change the spooler location under print server properties --> advanced tab.

How's that, adam? Sorry, I didn't realize this forum was to spefically ask a question or reply to one. I thought it was to help out people study for the MS tests.
