1  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / Server 2003 / MCSE 2000 upgrade.. on: January 07, 2007, 04:02:09 PM
Hello all,

finally getting round to upgrading my MCSE to 2003, any one followed the upgrade path? (292,296) i have read lots and lots of scare stories about how tough the 292 is and wanted to know if anyone could share their experiences here....

Take it easy

Good job and good luck with the rest of 'em!
3  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-217 / How many questions? on: August 22, 2004, 07:58:33 AM
I had 43 questions on friday.
4  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-217 / Passed! on: August 22, 2004, 07:53:48 AM
Hi All,

Passed 217 on Friday, here is the details :

125 Mins
700 passing score ( I got 920)
43 Questions.

Found this one quite tough, but ended up scoring well. KNOW DNS like the back of your hand, Had at least 10 DNS related q's.
The rest was the usual policy based questions, Inheritance etc. One or two RIS thrown in, but nothing to hard. DNS was the killer on this one, More so than 216.

Good Luck to everyone yet to take it, 218 for me next!

5  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-216 / Glad that ones over.... on: August 22, 2004, 07:50:01 AM
Hi all,

Passed 216 on wednesday, here is the details for those of you who wish to know :

155 Mins
Passing score 700 (I got 870)

Not as bad as i thought it was gonna be, Lots of DHCP q's, RRAS and lots of SRV related DNS q's. I had no Subnetting q's. (Phew!) Definately need to know RRAS inside out and have a good grip on the rest, But found it easier than 217. (Which i passed on friday!)

Anyway, Goodluck to those still to take this one on,

6  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-216 / Subnetting help....Please! on: August 14, 2004, 12:33:38 PM
Of course, I see the mistake now,

Thanks for pointing that out, back to the drawing board for me.....
7  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-216 / Subnetting help....Please! on: August 14, 2004, 08:58:52 AM

Just making sure i have got my head round this once and for all....

I am ok with working out number of hosts required or number of subnets required by using 2x-2 formula.

E.g 100 hosts required = 7 bits for hosts,
which is 128-2 = 126 usable hosts.

I am still a bit confused about working out the subnet ID's.

If i had a network address of and a subnet mask of, this would give me 14 usable address per subnet, (Correct?)

So, would the network address for the subnets be :
and so on....

This is taking into account that the first address is the subnet ID and the last address is the broadcast address for that subnet.

Hope this makes a bit of sense to someone, Any enlightenment will be much appreciated!

8  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-216 / The Beast Is Slain New "mcse" on: August 14, 2004, 08:36:53 AM
Well Done mate, Its nice to hear from someone who didn't find it impossible!

Thats has given me a boost of confidence as i am taking it at 9:00 on wednesday morning!

Congrats on MCSE!
9  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-217 / Booked in and ready to go!!! on: August 13, 2004, 08:17:20 AM
I have studied pretty hard for them both, so it should be ok, Still pretty nervous though!

I took 210 and 215 in the same week last year, but they were pretty similar, There is a bit of crossover with 216 and 217, DNS etc.
10  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-216 / Taking test tommorrow expecting to fail. on: August 13, 2004, 07:59:01 AM
Go in there with a positive attitude and think ' I am gonna slay this beast!'

Good luck for tomorrow, i have mine next wednesday, i am pretty nervous too!
11  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-216 / What do you reckon? on: August 06, 2004, 11:58:54 AM
I will! RRAS is a BIG topic, lots of things to catch you out on that, I am ok with Routing (OSFP etc) but there is a lot of ground to be covered with RRAS.

Will definately be reading up on DNS before going in, there is a lot to pick up there as well, but i am fairly confident that i have grasped the main concepts.

Thanks for the advice again, Just got to get my head down and study now!

12  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-216 / What do you reckon? on: August 06, 2004, 11:37:25 AM
Cool, Thanks for the feed-back. Over all 216 is the one that has got me the most worried, But every practice test that i have done in the past i have done really well on, and not so well in the 217 ones!

I am taking the exams during a weeks training, so i will have a couple of days with a microsoft tutor before taking each one, i was hoping that this would be good revision time before going for it. The problem i have is that i am so busy at work for the last year, the studying has been really drawn out and i just want to get them out of the way! I am gonna spend the next week revising solidly, playing with my test network and going through practices, so hopefully i will be ok!

Good luck with your re-take,

13  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-216 / What do you reckon? on: August 06, 2004, 10:41:44 AM

I am taking 216 and 217 in about a weeks time, I have just cracked open the transcenders for the two exams and have got around 75% for both of them, first time, without looking anything up, Going back through the answers now, i can see the silly mistakes i made. (I have a real problem with reading the q's too quickly and missing important info!)
Do you think i am being too ambitious in taking the exams this soon after only getting 75%? I have heard that the transcenders tend to be harder than the real thing though!
14  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-217 / Booked in and ready to go!!! on: August 06, 2004, 09:20:07 AM
Hi Guys,

Finally got round to bboking my 70-217 and 70-216 exams, got them in about a weeks time!
Any last minute advice from anyone, have heard they are both pretty tough cookies, have been studying for quite a while now though, and have plenty of hands on with Win2k, Just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best!
15  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / 70-216 / DNS zone transfer on: July 20, 2004, 06:16:10 PM
It will be IXFR, Although the initial transfer that takes place between the primary and secondary servers will be a full(AXFR) transfer as they have to synchronize their databases.

AXFR transfers will take place with NT4 DNS servers and also with older versions of BIND DNS Servers.
