2  General discussions / General Discussion / XP admin tools on: August 18, 2006, 03:49:56 PM
I've seen situations where the admin tools don't appear in the start\programs listing..

if you right click my computer and go to Manage, you don't get the computer management screen ?

do a search for admgmt.msc (or type admgt.msc in the start\run dialogue)
3  General discussions / General Discussion / super slow refresh on: August 18, 2006, 03:44:40 PM
I would suspect spyware, or excess temp info.

go to start, run and type %temp%
clear out all files in this folder.
skip over any files that are in use.

this should speed you up.

9  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / Server 2003 / Passed 292 Today!! on: August 07, 2004, 02:48:38 PM
Many of the questions are lab based.  Pay close attention to new screens in 2003 Server, and the changes from 2000.

I used the Syngress book and hands on work.

296 in two weeks!!

the power and capacity of learning exists in the soul already and the teacher's knowledge is the fuel for breaking our allegorical chains.

Without the practiced effort of the student, they will remain in Plato's cave of paper armored sys admins that burnup faster than onion farts.

I agree that the student should find out why.  This is where authoritative sources are formed that will prove invaluable when you encounter unfamiliar situations in your career.

Documentation should be enforced with trial (and error).  If you decrease your physical efforts in acquiring what you know, you begin to replace your field-tested skill with theory and paper.
12  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / Server 2003 / Dilemna! on: June 17, 2004, 10:54:08 PM
finish 2k then do 2k3.

You can come back to 2k3 after you finish the 2000 track.  As other's have said, you would only have to take 2 upgrade exams after you've become very familiar with the more popular and time tested 2k platform.

who knows, maybe 2k3 has some mysterious "feature" that will encourage the wait for Longhorn.
13  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / Server 2003 / Server 2003 domain preparation on: June 17, 2004, 10:20:10 PM
If your willing to purchase software, VMware makes virutal infrastructure software that allows you to host multiple machines on one physical box.

It's a very stable program that will allow you run several different operating systems simultaneously as though there were on a physical network.

You'd be devoting physical ram into a pool for the virutal machines, so you might have to purchse more hardware depending on your specs.

15  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / Server 2003 / 70-292 Exam on: June 17, 2004, 09:53:56 PM
You should check out the sample videos on each site.

I recommend cbt nuggets.  I used them for my 2000 exams and they were excellent.  They go well beyond preparing you for the exam.

I highly recommend cbtnuggets.
