1  General discussions / General Discussion / Re: Microsoft Windows 10 .. Will it be a success like it's predecessor Windows 7? on: December 19, 2017, 09:17:49 am

However, one thing is clear. The hardware requirements are going up, and the existing hardware is getting obsolete with every release of Microsoft OS. One wonders whether it is necessary to have OS upgrades so soon and so fast? In turn, it is increasing the cost of ownership.

I've rolled this out to almost all the PC's and laptops I have at home.

even to some old Dells I picked up from work after we did 3 year refreshes on them.

Laptops Dell E4310 and a Dell E6420 both seem to be handling Win 10 just fine.

An old Optiplex 960 has it as well.

Just upgraded an 780 from Win 7 to Win 10, complained about the video card not being supported, but seems to work OK, although I will be using his headless and just through RDP so probably won't be an issue.

Might try some of my older stuff, just for shits and giggles.

But doesn't have a proper dock. Sad

So we have one VP who likes to hot desk in her teams free desks and not just sit in her office.

Unfortunately they still have the older Dells with the proper docks.

So she can't dock her XPS 13.

6  Microsoft (MCSE, MCSD, MOUS, MCAD) / Windows XP exams / Re: Remote Assistance on: May 19, 2017, 05:50:44 am
I think what he meant was, when you set up the workstation initially you set this option in the build.

Anyway, having an administrator or anyone for that fact being able to remote in and take control without the approval of the logged in user is a not only an invasion of privacy but also a security risk, especially if it can be done without the user being aware.

One of these days I'm going to set up a room with PC's all each running a different OS, from Windows 1.0 to Windows 10 (or what ever the current flava will be when I do it).

Kind of like mile markers where the engineers placing the stones have got lazy and placed them randomly when they felt like it.

11  General discussions / Hardware / Re: Apple Mini Mac no audio on: May 14, 2015, 06:19:38 am
When you say start, do you mean the apple sound when you first turn it on?

Or do you actaully here other sounds once it has started and then it disappears.

If you only here the startup sound then the audio is probaly muted, or turned offf or set to another output in system preferences.
