Who should get the MCSE? I was thinking about getting it, but im not sure if it is in my carrer path. I want to be more of a network guru, i have a few years exp setting up a few hundred cisco routers, configuring, installing and troubleshooting them, but thats about all I ever did, so I limited myself to cisco router exp, i plan on getting my CCIE one of these days, but i was thinking of picking this one up to, cause my job pays for it, but who should have a mcse? who would need it most?

Hi:

With all of the experience you have in Cisco, it is still a good idea to be well rounded. You said your company would pay for you to take the MCSE course, and I think you should go for it.

You have experience with Cisco networking, and it is always a good idea to learn more things and give yourself a good well-rounded level of expertise. You may not be with the company you are with now forever, and it is a good idea to learn other methods of doing things.

I think anyone who really wants to learn networking - and I mean its in your blood -should take their MCSE.

You are all going to think I'm a little crazy now - but I live this stuff. I even dream about it when I go to bed at night. You have to have a strong desire to devote the time and energy you need to devote to it.

It sounds like you do - so I think you should go for it. With your company paying for it - what have you got to lose??

I agree with Paisleyskye, but let me add this. Since you are more familiar with Cisco products right now, I would concentrate on getting the CCNA and maybe CCDA before tackling the MCSE.

Even better would be to earn the CCNP and CCDP status before the MCSE. That way, when you finish your MCSE, you can move directly into the CCIE.

It all depends on the direction you want to go.

I agree with Bobby_Digital as well. If you like the Cisco stuff and you've got that amount of experience, your learning curve for Cisco should be relatively short to prepare for the certs. But pursuing the MCSE later will help round out your skills better, and prepare you for other opportunities that may come your way later.
