Question

I recently took the CCNA v2 and failed. I'm preparing to retake it but there is one question I can't find the answer to....."What is the most widely used layer 2 device?"

switch or hub??

I'm not sure and I'm worried about getting the same question again!!

Thanks

Correct me if I'm wrong but switchs operate at the second layer primarily because the deal with mac addresses.
Many hubs operate only at the physical layer, regenerating the signal and passing it on to the other ports. Not all hubs do intelligent switching and pass the signal only to the port associated with the target host.

Thumbs up

I would go with simonbarts answer, hubs are multi-port repeaters (physical) and switches are multi-port bridges (data link).
