Question GNU pth

I'm trying to install a Jabber software onto my Mdk 8.2 linux server but am unable to because it's conflicting with the current GNU pth which I believe is to be pth 1.4.1. Does anyone know how to verify one's current pth version and how to remove it cuz that's what I must do. I have to fallback onto an older pth like 1.4.0. Thanks.

Not sure about pth (or even what pth is), but a lot of programs will tell you if you execute "programname -v". If that doesn't work take a look at the man page, and if the man page doesn't work try google.

Well, thanks for your help. GNU pth is portable threads in the POSIX/ANSI C library. Its not a command so the "progamname -v" won't really work in this particular case. Nor will man pages help. I've tried google but didn't find what I needed. Guess I'll have to keep looking.
