Question cant ping to a machne in another subnet

i was successfull in the end to configure two network cards.i am trying to install squid on my machine using my cable modem connection to connect to the internet. but now i am having another problem.
my 1st card has the ip 192.168.55.x(internal)
my 2nd card has the ip 202.88.138.x(external)
my name server's ip is 202.88.230.x
my machine cannot ping to my nameserver.
i tried connecting using only 1 lan card and everything works fine.
everthing works fime whenm i use a windows based proxy.i can ping to my gateway, nameserver, etc.
what can be done???
