People post here to learn, not get wise-*** comments from people like you. It is a question I had on the exam and I was not sure of the correct answer because there were like 8 choices and I has to choose 3. So I suppose you are Mr knowledge, How about humoring me with an answer.

Hi mkoenig:

I think quantity's concern relates to the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) you agreed to when you took the exam. By openly saying what questions you had on the exam, you potentially breech this agreement (and hence risk losing your certification.) You need to be careful about what you say regarding what you saw on the exam. Personally, I have said nothing to anyone about the questions I saw on my exam. My advice is that if you have doubts about things you saw on the exam, couch the questions as general questions, and don't mention the exam.

I don't think quantity was trying to be rude, but he could perhaps have worded his response to you in more clear terms.

Cheers,

Deets

hi deets,
do you mean quantity when saying dmaftei?
I'm sure, you are overworked and should take a couple of sleep

we've umbrella-weather in vienna -
I think you should keep both - sunglasses and umbrellas in your store, then your business will flourish independent from the actual weather

No, I mean quantity!! (With a bit of editing, LOL.) Sorry about the confusion, guys.

All I can say is that I rode 14 km's today in ~40 degree Celcius heat - it was like riding in an oven. That's my excuse for the confusion

So many sunglasses sold today!!

Cheers,

Deets

Host 3 says, " I heard you and that is my IP address. Here is my Ethernet address..."

But, why would a Router need the MAC address? Well, a router stripes MAC address and rebuilds MAC addresses to get to the destination host. If the MAC address is not located in the ARP cache it will send out a request, known as an ARP request. Yes, router route by IP. However, they forward based on the MAC address.

RARP gets IP from MAC(think of a DHCP server)

When a machine is a diskless machine and needs to know it's own IP address the RARP server discovers the identity based on the MAC address.

Example:
Host 1, "What is my IP address...here is my MAC address"
RARP Server, "Got it, here is your IP address idiot"

Hope this helps

My point should speak for itself. Mkoenig, as I understand it, you took the test. I don't know if you passeed but I missed mine with an 816.

This is mindless, however, I will respond to your accusations that I am not here to learn and help. How quickly we forget those that offer help. Despite juggling my own study habits and my kids, the night before your test I offered you the above help with no questions asked. However, I will concede that my response to your last question was short but I was in the middle of a Linux-Mandrake class and the break was almost over. This is the last posting I will write concerning this matter as this forum is not for sophmoric bickering. It is desigend for people to discuss CCNA material and for personal edifictaion. This back and forth should remind us all what it is we are doing here and why we labor through perilous tombs of which sometimes contains trite and painful information.

Suggestion: Think about what I said. Try not to respond and just drop it. No hard feelings here.:-)

'Nuff said.

Quantity

P.S. That was as polite as I could be.:-)

mkoenig:
the timer resets, when
the hold-down-time expires
when the device learns a more effective route or something like this changes on the network
(long time ago I knew this stuff )
I'm forgetting more and more of it every day
