Hi..i was wondering if anyone uses aol 8.0 or has seen this before.What i did
was
delete my partition... reformat ..installed w2k pro..then aol 8.0.When i got
online
i went to my favorites tab and everything was still there as if i didnt
reformat or anything.This may be old news but i didnt think the HD could keep
the favorites
after the format and all?

I don't use aol but I would guess there is probably is a profile on one of
aol's servers with the info on your favorites and that is what you are
seeing. It would'n't be from your computer if you fdisked and reformated.

i have no problems with it and now i guess i dont have to worry about saving my
favorites..

AOL has your favorites, not your computer.

If you ever get a real ISP, you will have trouble getting your favorites
transported.

Hello:
Not storing favorites locally must be something new in 8.0. Under older
versions, favorites were stored on the user's computer.
At any rate, the important stuff like E-mail messages and address book
are stored in the \Organize\ folder.
This is handy to know if you need to back something up or move it to a
new computer.
Incidentally, I don't use AOL. I just work for a lot of clients who do.

I just loaded AOL 8 on a client's barefoot laptop (AHH please don't shoot
me)
After loading, all of his favorites from his home AOL 7 were immediately
available on the new computer.

I regret to inform you that AOL is my lone form of internet. I live in the
middle of nowhere and I can't get cable internet. DSL is out of reach and
the satellites are too expensive. The older versions of AOL store favorites
and settings in a file that is named after your screen name in the organize
folder. Its the file with no extension. The newest version of aol I
believe stores the favorites under your screen name on AOL servers just as
they store your buddy list now.

??? You mean there are _NO_ other isp's within local dialup range??? Not
even MSN? (not that it would be much of an improvement) You must live not
only in the sticks, but in a time warp!

Hello:
In the area of northern Indiana where I live, there are usually local
mom-and-up ISPs that serve people who live out in the sticks. I have also
heard of some small towns that offer community Internet service. You pay for
it on your water bill or something like that.
Then again, in many rural areas, it is not unusual that there is only
one ISP to choose from.
I'd hate to think of life where AOL is that one and only choice.
