I have the Michael Meyers A+ All-in-One book (4th edition). If I were
studying separately for Core and OS, what chapters would I omit if I were
taking the Core first? Or do you think it advisable just to read the entire
book and take them at the same time?

I was thinking that the chapters 9 (dos) , 10 (9x) , 11 (2000), and 12 (dos
memory management) were the OS chapters. Can anyone else confirm this? My
thoughts were to skip these chapters, take the Core test, then go back and
read 9-12. What is everyone's opinion on that?

The book is such an easy read that you should just go through and read the
whole book and then reread the chapters that you might have found harder or
the ones where all the information may not have sunk in.

I read the whole book without skipping any chapters, took CD exams and
FreeCompTia.

Took both Core and OS exams 3 weeks later and passed both.

I concur with Pat - read the whole book first. Personally I have a problem
with this Core/OS stuff as all through the Core part of the exam are
questions on drivers etc. The idea I am guessing is that the parts in the
book that relate to drivers (say in the chapter on sound) is the bits to
read ... BUT you are just as likely to get a question regarding the type of
driver for a certain type of system - then if you havent read the OS parts
you tend to miss out.

I remember an answer one time from Mike (or one of the other friendly folks
at Total Seminars) that OS really is Chapters 9-12 PLUS the free download of
Essential Windows from their web site. This is at least true for 3rd
Edition.

P.S. - I really do mean friendly folks. They hang out here and do contribute
to the group.

Even with their good record, some goofs make it into print. They aren't shy
to admit when something should be changed (unlike some I could cite).
