Re: ip subnetting.....
well don't panic almost everyone gets really confused by subnetting
initially. What exactly don't you understand?

Re: ip subnetting.....
hi,
thanks for replying...., feel much relieved......
the part that calculating the ip subnet range, where i got lost somewhere
there,
i realized i've not been in school for over a decade, thought my learning
skill has
been rusted, plus the time on the exam is quite tight, this adds to the
stress and
a bit of anxiety.....
thanks for reading.....

Subnetting is easy, especially if you stop trying to do it in decimal... do
it in binary.

Re: ip subnetting.....
I agree that subnetting is hard... The only thing that I really learned in
school is class c subnetting... I just have one question.... In class c I would
presume it is the same in class a or b. 255.0.0.0 (11111111.0.0.0) how do you
account for the number of nets with a or b?

No.
First off, you may want to not devote all of your time to 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 0 =
254 IP... it is dying quick...
However, for a starting point, it isn't that bad an idea...
Class A... 8 bit mask, 255.0.0.0
Class B... 16 bit mask, 255.255.0.0
Class C... 24 but mask 255.255.255.0
But, as I said, subnetting makes no sense whatsoever in decimal...
In binary, it is remarkably logical.
1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 = 255
1 1 1 1 1 1 1 0 = 254
1 1 1 1 1 1 0 0 = 252
1 1 1 1 1 0 0 0 = 248
1 1 1 1 0 0 0 0 = 240
1 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 = 224
1 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 = 192
1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 = 128
but, others have done a better job on teaching subnetting than I am capable
of (time wise...)...

I can vouch for this too. I even paid the guy the $10 to get the CD (wow a
software author who has figured out that if you don't charge a stupid price
people will pay rather than spending hours trying crack products)
CCNA exam Monday week -for which I've just learnt dear old Prometric have
billed me twice -and the one part I am fairly confident of is my IP
addressing.
