Think Pad A20m Type 2628 - 3AU, display black
I have a Think Pad A20m Type 2628 - 3AU that is out of warranty. The
backlight has failed, the display is completely black. On boot-up you can
faintly see the windows logo when you look closely, so the LCD seems to be
intact. I've worked on a lot of workstations and servers, but I've never
opened up a notebook computer, so I'm looking for some information.
Anybody know of an inexpensive way to replace the cold cathode fluorescent
(CCFL) backlight tubes on these?
Where do you get the tubes? Where do you get the tool to separate the
case/bezel?
How do you get the display apart without cracking the bezel, LCD panel or
destroying the traces???
Know of a depot repair place that does this for a reasonable amount of
money?? Reasonable would be an amount significantly less than the cost of a
new notebook.
Thanks.

This might be totally off, but have you tried Fn+F7? That key combo toggles
between video on the LCD, docking station-attached monitor, or both...I'm
not sure if it's F7 on the A20m, but it's the function key with the blue
icon of a monitor...
