What is the future of I.T?

I'm a entry level guy looking a job in I.T. I have a A.S degree in Networking but no job nor have had the oppurtunity as to yet to work in I.T.

I wanted to know since it has been so long since I finished school and never worked in Networking should I jump to another area of I.T?

I have serious money problems which means that I basically have no money to do anything, buy spare computers, take vouchers or do anything that is commonly Networking envolved.

I was thinking more of terms of Web Design, programming would be better off for me. That way I can just download some programs and learn how to do them as opposed to setting up networks or home labs that I really don't have the money to do.

I also feel that the Networking market is very flooded and maybe I can do better at programming, maybe I can move up quicker at that.

Sorry for the confusing post for those who are totally lost, just reviewing my options. I live in Florida but I am looking to move pretty soon due to the weak job market.

I was thinking more in the terms of Sun Solaris Admin or something of that nature.

What do you think?

IT in general right now is very bleak job wise. However, just set your mind on what it is you want to really do. I think the programming said of things is fine if you have the determination as well as patient. I hope I have helped a little as there is not much happening in the IT arena in general at the moment anyways maybe try web programming and database design together as I see more job opennings for this area. Keep the IT hope alive and don't give up. Best wishes in your endeavours.

I would agree with Onoski on going the web programming/database route as that seems to be the positions available now. Even with IT, in general, being in the dumps.

Hydro, I think you're making the right decisions if programming is something you would enjoy and for which you have an aptitude.

I never programmed in my life, just a little HTML. I agree that the state of I.T is more programming than Networking and the majority of the jobs will have more to do with programming.

With that being said, I still need to get my foot in the door of I.T. Should I pursue a helpdesk or something of that terms while I prepare my programming skills?

The programs that are in demand are Java, C++, Perl what? Shed some light on this for me.

Thanks.

If I was going to begin programming this very moment, where should I begin? I know you don't just land across a programming job right outta school.

For Web programming I would begin with HTML or XML. From there I would think Java. My brother is a C programmer and has been trying to get into the Web side more and has been going this route for close to two years. I've also seen some stuff for PHP, as well, but I know nothing about it.

Sure I'd go for a helpdesk position if you can in the mean time. There are many programmers who know nothing about PCs or networks, so the knowledge you could gain from helpdesk or PC support would make you stronger in these areas.

What is the future of I.T?

Seems no fure! Sorry I do not want to discourage you, but it is the fact.

Anyhow, if you are determined, you can try IT. It needs a true determination now.

These are the times that try men's souls.

I think I read that in English Lit a few years ago.

To be serious about the whole IT issue.

A lot of people jumped on the bandwagon in the late 90's . Myself included and thought it was going to be a cake walk but unlike others I respect the game and have grown to really enjoy what I do.

With that being said please do some research on the different areas of IT and find your niche. Programmers make that big money but dont let the lure of money be your guide.

In the end its not where you start but where you end that matters.

Lol I think I read that too in English Lit

Just my $.02 worth

Perhaps in another year or so it will pick up. But can you starve that long? I can't and have decided to give teaching I.T and accounting a go.
