What the? Not loading config from startup-config
Strange.
I erased the start up config on my new router so I could config it from
scratch. I rebooted and it went into the config mode and I configured the
interfaces. I then chose option 2) save to NVRAM and exit.
I thought that saved the config to startup-config, but when I rebooted it
when back to config mode. I entered the info again, chose 2) save to NVRAM
and then did a "copy running-config startup-config" which appeared to work
successfully.
I rebooted again, and it went in to config mode again. I skipped out. The
interfaces are not configured. However, if I show the startup-config the
interfaces ARE CONFIGURED (ie the previous steps HAD saved it as you would
expect), but if I show the RUNNING-config the interfaces ARE NOT configured
(and passwords are blank, hostname is default)...
What gives? I configured the router, saved it, the correct configuration is
still in the start-up config (passwords, interface, hostname), but it has
not loaded it into the running config when I boot up...
what am I missing? (no rude answers please)

So a sho ver command and look at the config register setting - if it is not
set correctly this will happen.. go into global config mode and type
config-register 0x2102 and then restart the router.
Thanks

Good call. It was set to 0x2142. I have changed it and it works now.
Any idea WHY it was set to 0x2142 after I cleared all the configuration?

Re: What the? Not loading config from startup-config
Depending on where you got this - some places will set it before shipping so
you don't have to know the passwords.. I have gotten a few on ebay that way
and even one from cisco!!!
Happy routing!
