Well,I have heard ppl saying that sometimes your salary reflects your self respect. Is that true??? BTW i am a CNE 5.0,MCSE and CCNA with 2 years of networking experience along with a Bachelor of science degree in field other than computer science.I truly am getting pissed off by the kind of salaries that ppl offer here in this part of world.
My que to u all is ....how much should a person with my qualification should demand in your respective countries???

I don't know what would be a reasonable figure - a lot depends on your experience, what you have been doing. For an entry-level helpdesk operator in Melbourne, you're looking at about $40k to $45k, which would be around $25k US. Of course you have to take into account cost of living here, etc. For top-notch networking experts, look up to $90k Aus Dollars. Ads for CCIEs go up to $130k Aus Dollars. Mind you, it's extremely competitive here in the job market: I missed out on a help desk role the other day - up against well over 100 applicants...
Cheers,
Deets

Deets,
Hang in there. From your posts you know your stuff and would an asset to any organization. Like you, the IT market here isn't the best for new people so I may have to relocate myself.
Cheers

Hey I know what you are talking about. I make $10.00 an hour and have nine switches to config tonight. It's taken a lot of hunting around, but I finally found another job which I'll be starting early next year. I say post your resume and search lots of web sights for someplace else. It sounds like we have nearly identical experience and qualifications. Isn't it a shame almost everyone has abandoned NetWare? nobody seems to care how much time I invested it. Even my MCSE doesn't seem to carry a lot of weight anymore. Keep up the hunt, I'm sure you'll find something

To Always Learning:
I would like to work in the US at some stage in the future, as I have an interest in seeing the country (and also, given that it's the centre of IT.) I suspect, though, that your cost of living is a lot higher than here.
Cheers,
Deets

Congrats on being appointed moderator.
Out of curiosity, I met a couple of Aussies on an airport shuttle a few years back and the topic got around to taxes. I seem to remember that you guys don't have to "file your taxes every year". Is that true?

Hey guys,It seems that US pays a lot more than any other country.Thats why everyone from third world countries wants to go there. But still my que remains the same....do programmers get more pay than networking guys everywhere??? After so much of investment of time, energy and not to mention money, what do I get??Its like dying everyday in the bed that u made to sleep in. I love what I do,I do not want to leave this field anytime.but i also have a body that needs food to live.....Sorry for seeming so pessimistic today but I dont have anyone to tell this to.It seems like the only person who is paid lower than me is housekeeper.
Hope everything changes to better for all of us.

Hi the sids911
programmers do get alot of money especially java programmers, i have heard here in UK they can demand the highest pay per hour for the IT industry, but the thing is its a very stressful and boring job i would stick to networking the rewards are just as good once you have some experience behind you. I know some contractors that have CCNA's and some CCNA and MSCE just like you and they have earnt them selves around £100k consulting banks.
