Question Computer wont shut down ?

Hello

I have a small issue, My windows 2000 professional machine will not shut down. When I tell it to shut down, it goes into standy by mode? nothing in the power options are telling it to go into standby? In the power options, there is an option to 'when the power button is pressed --- "shut down" '. But still, when I press the power button, the computers harddrive goes off, and the computer goes into standby.

The problem used to show a small blinking curser on the top left of the screen when it went into standby but not anymore, because I upgraded the computers bios to latest spec. Now the screen is completely black, the harddrive goes off, but the fans are still going in the computer powersuppply and the videocard?

It started when i was taking the CDRW out to have a look at the seriel, but also around that time I installed a second harddrive as a slave on the primary IDE chain. XP is on that harddrive, and when I'm in XP and tell the computer to shut down, it does ...

any suggestions welcome !

I think this is a configuration problem as you might want to re-insert your IDE cables properly.

Look into the BIOS setting, try to install back the CDRW and see what happen.
