TCP/IP Study Materials ..

Hi all ,

I am thinking of taking TCP/IP for Networking Professionals as the elective , and i'am wondering what you guys/gals were/are using to study for it ?

I've heard that Douglas Comers's TCP/IP series is pretty good , but it's vendor neutral and might not be the best choice as far as preparing for the actual test goes ..

What about these books from Novell :

1. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...&s=books&n=3624

2. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/A...1537062-0901569

Has any body tried them ?

--
Thanks in advance

Really any of the Novell books are pretty good. Although the books you list don't seem specifically geared toward the CNE elective exam, the material covered supplemented by examnotes and (I recommend) Exam Essentials practice exams, should give you a good assessment of how well you are learning the information.

Going for CNE 5.1, then upgrading to 6?

I have to agree with darthw. Those books are a great resource but don't hone in on the exam objectives.
I used the Novell official course "white book" and Exam Essentials.

The O"Reilly book on TCPIP is great, and so is the Windows 2000 resource kit TCPIP book. ANd needless to say, I particularly like the tcp/ip for freaks!

...And lest we forget about "TCP/IP for Freaks". Based on what I've seen of the Windows XP Pro for Freaks, I'd say the TCP/IP version is a great resource, too. Particularly if one is not familiar with many of the basic TCP/IP concepts like subnetting. And the price is worthwhile. Oh, and the customer service for the site is the best on the Net.

Sorry Freak, with the holidays and all on my mind, I forgot to mention.

Thanks for the kind words. I have to say that I really enjoy running that site and creating study guides. It started as a little project for fun and it has grown into quite the little adventure.

And the feedback I have received has been very gratifying as well. Gotta love that

Finally went and took the test today ... Got a pretty good score and should say that `Internetworking with TCP/IP VOL 1` mentioned before as well as EE6 helped a bit . Most of the questing were on calculating subnets/masks/CIDR etc .. Only 4-5 Novell Specific questions.

Anyways, now that i'm CNE5, i'm planning on going for Upgrade in a couple of weeks or so ..
