IceWM questions
Fumbled around the options but I can't find answers to these 2 simple
questions:
1) How can I set a background image?
2) How can I add a button to a specific app? I notice there's one for
Mozilla and the standard xterm...hrm??
I really like IceWM by the way and heartily suggest it for anyone used to
the KDE interface but are sick of some of the bloat the goes along with
something as huge as KDE...just having some problems getting the look..
Thanks.

If you have Eterm installed you can use 'Esetroot' to do it.
It's what I'm currently using w/ my Blackbox setup.

The trick with IceWM is editing the config files in your /home/user/.icewm
dir. I'm not sure how to go about default backgrounds though as my distro
came with DFM to sort these things out.
If you edit the toolbar, you'll need to restart IceWM to see the changes,
but the menu seems to update straight away on my system.
Hope this is of some use.

Edit the file:
~/.icewm/preferences
Look for the "DesktopBackgroundImage=xxxxx" entry.

Edit the file:
~/.icewm/winoptions
Example from my winoptions file:
--------------
pan.icon: pan
xterm.icon: xterm
AcroRead.icon: pdf
Netscape.icon: netscape
(and so on...)
--------------
The icons resides in the "/usr/lib/icewm/icons" directory, your milage
may vary.

Or, if you mean that you wish to add a button to your toolbar, edit the
toolbar file in your cleverly hidden ~/.icewm directory. Just follow the
bouncing syntax.

The problem with every suggestion I've gotten is I just don't have a
toolbar file, or a winoptions file that can be edited....THIS is all I
have:
[whitesnake@localhost .icewm]$ ls -a
../ ../ menu preferences preferences~ .winoptions.swp
Hrm, why is mine so sucky?

Well, you usually have global configuration files and specific user
configuration files.
So you may have to copy some of the global ones (mine are in
/usr/local/lib/X11/icewm/) into your ~/.icewm directory, and then edit
them to taste.
I don't use icewm anymore, but it seems to me that the docs mention this
exceedingly abstruse maneuver.

The toolbar file is not that hard to do yourself. Here's a
snip from my toolbar file:
--------------------
prog Mozilla mozilla mozilla
prog Evolution evolution evolution
prog Pan pan pan
prog Gaim icq gaim
prog GFtp gftp gftp
(and so on...)
--------------------
How to interpret:
prog "Name of program" "icon name" "name of executable"

Umm. In the version you're using perhaps. It's probably bound to change
with each version of IceWM, since new options are added and/or removed.
It's better to search for the "DesktopBackgroundImage" entry in the
preferences file.
