MCSD .NET USEFUL OR NOT
Hi Guys,
I know this topic of usefullness or MCSD is ongoing forever. But I am
confused now, bcoz if employer doesn't consider these certifications useful
than what is the purpose of giving these exams. Why waste time and money ?
I need comments from those who have qualified MCSD or MCAD and got job.

From where I stand in the UK, employers do not value ms certs. From
other comments I've read in this group, ms certs are valued more in
the States.
Some employers may well find certifications 'useful' (MS partners for
instance), but this alone will not get you a job. The predominate
factor in getting a job, is experience both business and technical.
If you are just starting out, it will be very hard to get a role, even
with a good honors degree. I can't see ms certs on there own helping
too much, but then again it can't do no harm and does show a
willingness of sorts. But up against all those grads out there, unless
you have a good area of business knowledge, I can't see it myself.
> Why waste time and money ?
It will only be a waste of time if you expect to get a huge pot of
gold at the end.
Passing the cert should give you a good sense of achievement and give
you some confidence to boot.
As for a waste of money, that depends on how many useless books you
buy!

You do not waste time and money if you really study and learn, gain new
skills. Even if many employers don't care about Certifications they will
care about your skills.
If you think you can gain the same skills only using books and practicing
then probably you don't want to spend money with a certification. Somehow
having in mind the certification target will help you study harder.

I got a job and it helped that I passed only one exam at that time 70-229.
I'm a C++ developer and only with C++ I would have not gotten my current
job. The new SQL skills I added helped me.

Re: MCSD .NET USEFUL OR NOT
In the United States MCSD works pretty well. At least you attract employee's
attention by showing MCSD logo on your resume. Then it depends on your
knowledge and experience. Without certificate you are among other millions,
with certificate you are just among 40 thousands. In many cases it makes
difference.
Because of this I'm working on getting MCSD.NET. I'm MCSD since 1999 and
just a week ago I passed my 3rd MCAD exam. I even cannot compare offers I
used to get before MCSD and after.

Re: MCSD .NET USEFUL OR NOT
Before MCSD agents were talking about $40-$45K salary, after I became MCSD
no one of them talked lower than $70K and I found a job with almost $90K

Re: MCSD .NET USEFUL OR NOT
Any type of qualifications is worth it, the journey taken (studying) itself
is worth even more.

Re: MCSD .NET USEFUL OR NOT
Really?
I had my MCSD in Visual Studio 6, with 6 years of C and C++ experience with
SQL, etc, plus MCDBA, MCSE+Internet certification. But I get no interview
at all and I am still in the unemployment line. Where are those 40K agents
or 70K agents?
