I have a degree of business administration. I'd like to work in the IT industry.

Can A+, MCSE, CCNA etc. can act as a "passport" and allow me to work in the IT industry if I passed these exams?

Hi Bobo2000 - I also have a business degree and work in the iT industry. My degree is from Pepperdine University and is specifically a BS in Management. I broke into IT by applying for entry level tech support positions. It didn't take long. I think the thing that opened the door for me was the software knowledge. I also had about 15 years administrative experience and became quite advanced with the MS Office suite. Ultimately, it was the software experience that got me the job. Most techies know the OS and the components but can't help the clients make the software work the way they want. My degree helped the next job find me. I spent only 2 years as a tech support before breaking into my first management role in an IT group. You need to figure out specifically which area of IT you want to work in and go for the certifications that will help you get those jobs. For example, I enjoy the desktop environment and helping others master the desktop, so A+ was a good cert to start with. I also enjoy the network administration functions, so I am going for Network+ and got my MCP status with NT4 Workstation. This combination keeps me in the running for the jobs I am looking at. I like the CompTIA certs because they are vendor neutral and don't expire. Many companies are beginning to require A+ for all PC techs, so if you don't have ANY certifications, I would start there.
