share permissions
I like to share this Q, I am always confusing in such types of Q:
You want to share the folder \Production in a windows 2000 pro environment, assign Read share permission to user GUY and assign Change share permission to ENGINEERING group, if user GUY is a member of ENGINEERING group, which share permission is effective for GUY:
a. read
b. change
c. full control
d. have no access
As I know the more restrictive permissions are applied in both NTFS and share, so I choose “Read”
I found the answer is “Change”
Please provide your opinions

Hi Adam,
For permissioning questions, you find the cummulative(least resrtictive) of the persons Share permissions, and the cummulative(least restricitive) of the NTFS permissions. Then from those two results, you combine the NTFS and Share permissions, with the Most Restrictive being the effective permission on the resource.
For this question, they are only stating Share permissions for Guy, there is no mention of NTFS permissions on the resource in question.
He has Share permission Read assigned directly to him.
He is a member of the Engineering group, which has Share permission Change assigned to the resource.
The cummulative Share permission for Guy would be Change.
(Also remember that Share permissions only apply when we are hitting the resource over the network. If we are accessing the resource locally on the computer itself, share permissions do not apply and we only consider NTFS permission on the resource).
Hope this Helps!

yes...... spid have the point!!!!
regarding ntfs and share permisions, the less restrictive is the final permision.
later, share and ntfs, the most restrictive is applied.
for example:
if a user X is member of group Y.
user X have read
group Y have full control
then X have full control.
