Question

What the heck?

This is a ridiculous question. None of the answers apply.

The wrong controller would just make the drive run slower (let's say it was hooked up to an ATA33 controller). A bad floppy disk won't stop an HDD from spinning, nor will it prevent a machine from turning on. Putting the cable on correctly won't screw anything up of course, and putting the cable on backwards (it would have to be non-keyed) would prevent the drive from being recognized by the BIOS, but it would still spin (as long as it had power) and the PC would still power up.

Were you drunk or something when you wrote this?

LOL, I was wondering that myself. So I just went with the best answer out of those.

Maybe he means "PC seems to be dead" because it won't boot up to that new hard-drive. The PC wouldn't be "dead" -- just would give you an error and won't be able to get to your OS. Who know's what he means.

Ok... If the question was reworded to simply say "won't boot from the HDD" then I'd agree D would be the answer.

Though it's still a weirdly-worded answer... "The ribbon cable is properly aligned to match pin 1 on the cable with pin 40 on the drive" The answer itself is an incorrect statement, so how can it be a correct answer?

That's was my first thought as well. When someone says "..the PC seems to be dead now." I take it to mean not having any juice supplied to the computer including to the motherboard and peripherals. But the possible answers were not what I expected.

If flext meant that the PC won't boot of the hard drive, than I will go with answer (D)...mebbe.

For once I have to agree with Someguy because of the wording of the question. Out of the answeres given and alot of head scratching, the only thing I come up with is D.

So if you reverse an IDE cable, your computer will appear dead? I don't think so.
