i'd think that would mean to clear your browser's history and delete the cookies. that way, your spouse won't see all the porn on your comp!
(i don't mean this directly to you, i mean generally)

actually, this guy told me that after I had visited his website. He had my IP address and knew what area of the country I am from. Close, but not quite the area.
So, I'm not sure what he meant. Is there a way to block my IP from a site when I surf?
I'm not worried about it, just would like to have that knowledge in my bag of tricks...just in case.

Actually, I also knew you were running I believe Windows 98 with IE 5.5 if my memory servers me correct. I believe it was provided by Kanokla Communications, Inc.
Don't be scared. I was just telling you for future references to protect yourself.

Web proxy will work. Try to look for a nice public one.
Firewall if you have boardband.

i don't think there's much damage that can be done with just your IP being known. it's knowing what to do with an IP, such as scanning your ports to see which ones are open. a firewall can help. www.zonealarm.com has a free personal firewall that works well.

I disagree, there is a lot that can be done by just knowing an ip.

i mean, just knowing the actual address isn't much of a threat, is it? it's what can be done to you once somebody connects to you through your ip using some program. unless you trace it or ping it...or am i wrong? do the numbers themselves give away damaging information?

Depends on the person who gets it.
