no sound?

a friend of mine is not getting any sound from a CD ROM tutorial he is using. sound is coming from the speakers, for example, instant messengers and the sounds that come with using that, but not from the CD ROM ,any suggestions? thanks!

Check the cable , witch should come with the cd-rom drive is connected with the sound card.
Or reseat is otherwise.

I can't come up with anything else.

go into sound properties and turn everything up full.

try to play an audio cd. if it does not play, then redcrown's answer is correct.

Also- to verify that the CD is working properly plug a headset into the headset jack on the CD player to ensure that it works. Then check the audio cable as already advised.
