real life dhcp behavior
i have a dhcp server providing ip address to a small company.
the company have 5 servers and 10 employes.
all servers use static ip address and all the ip used are excluded from the scope.
i have only 30 ips available for the network. is a 200.36.172.0 / 27 subnet and everything works nice from almost 6 or more months.
any dhcp error are previously founded on the network.
today come a visit to a meeting on the company, and all users come with their laptops. all laptops have automatic configuration for your win2k laps.
after connect the users to the network, the dhcp logs show the following:
13,10/14/02,12:49:22,Conflict,200.36.172.12,BAD_ADDRESS,
13,10/14/02,12:49:22,Conflict,200.36.172.12,BAD_ADDRESS,
13,10/14/02,12:49:31,Conflict,200.36.172.19,BAD_ADDRESS,
13,10/14/02,12:49:31,Conflict,200.36.172.19,BAD_ADDRESS,
i have 3 ips free for the new clients, but if i delete the leases, become again a BAD address.
i don`t know what to do on this case... BAD ADDRESS!!! aaaaargh.. got me crazy...

You have to find out where those addresses are already in use, and why the laptops that are configured for DHCP would select those addresses.
Did you ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew on the laptops?
Are your exclusions and reservations accounted for?
Do other clients have fixed addresses, when they should be using DHCP?
