Two questions:

1. In order to be an e-commerce server, what must be offered?
a. Credit Card services
b. Virtual shopping cart services

2. Based on speed and cost, which Internet bandwidth link would be the best for a small ISP with 100 dial-up users.
a. 56K
b. T1

(I've seen both answers in my studying)

Thanks in Advance! Testing on Friday for my first cert.

I've seen both answers as well. On the first, my inclination is to go with virtual shopping cart services. It seems more inclusive. That is, one could offer credit card services and not really be involved in "e-commerce."

As for the second question, m.Modem users will expect V90 and 56k connections on their end. That rules out 56k for the line the ISP uses to connect to the net. Typically, a single user will require bandwidth of, say, 33-35 kbps. Let's use 33 kbps. A T1 line provides a bandwidth of about 1500 kbps. This will support 45 users at a time. That is probably a reasonable balance between bandwidth and cost, as all 100 users are probably never going to be connected at the same time. The next highest connection would be T3 at 45000 kbps. This would support 1363 simultaneous users at 33 kbps per user. Way overkill for an ISP with only 100 users.

I hope my math is correct. <g>

I got this question on my test and the answer to the first question is credit card services. In all the pre testing online exams I've used the answer has been Credit Card Services because e-commerce in effect is like having a store on the internet.

Well, on further thought, and in light of PhilD's response, I'm giving "credit card services" a second thought.

PhilD, how certain can you be that you got it right? (e.g. was it in a section where you missed no questions?)

The more I think about it, the more I realize that technically, neither answer is absolutely correct. EDI is part of e-commerce. This for sure rules out virtual shopping cart services as an absolute requirement, and would seem to rule out credit card services also. However, the closest to a "standard" definition that I've found is:

Conducting business on-line. This includes,
for example, buying and selling products with
digital cash and via Electronic Data
Interchange (EDI).

Note that digital cash is NOT the same as credit card services.

I think the key to solving ambiguous questions like this is to go with the most inclusive, or least exclusive, choice. In retrospect, that would probably be credit card services.

But I'd like it, PhilD, if you could convince me of why I should believe that you can know for a fact that you got it right.

Thanks.

-Baz

Hey, PhilD, in light of all the questions you are asking now about "Exam 410," I now have to ask: have you actually taken the I-net+ exam? If so, why are you now apparently prepping for the CIW foundations exam (Exam 410)?

What exam, exactly, did you take when you said you got the question on your test and the answer was credit card services? What test, PhilD?

I've redone some practice exams that lean on virtual carts. I also looked at the Sybex book in the bookstore the other day. Sybex gave three items that make up an e-comm site: credit card services, virtual shopping cart, forgot the third :-(

To me, this would be a good multi-answer question, but that doesn't fit the exam format. My logic is both answers are correct based on the definition of EC with the inclusion of merchant systems with "various business support services..."

I hope the question doesn't pop up on the exam. Does anyone that's taken the I-net remember seeing the question???

Today is the big day at 2:45!
