I have come across several computations of download time (i.e. 1000kb file at 128bps or 100kb at 56bps).
My book has nothing about the subject. Usually from experience I guess 1 minute and it ends up being 1.25 or something. Is there a formula I can use?

the problem comes from the fact that the file size is expressed in KILO bytes, while the speed is expressed in BYTES... simply transfer you size in bytes, and you are done... or is there more to it?

I am with you Freak. I am looking for a simple formula with which to answer the question "How long does it take to download a 7KB file at 56kbs."
Bob, I hope you don't mind me quoting your answer from Exam drill. But maybe it falls under the educational "fair use" clause.
"7000 bytes equals 56000 bits (1 byte = 8 bits). You may be tempted to think you could just divide 56,000 by 56,000 and it would be 1 second. However, it's not that simple. There is always a certain amount of additional bits involved in dividing the data into packets and also for error correction. Under ideal conditions, the minimum amount of time would be 1.25 seconds "
That seems like an estimate to me. In other words 1 seconds is the answer but considering a bunch of other bits 1.25 seconds is the answer.
Don't get me wrong. I don't even think this is important I just want to get the question correct on Fri.
