What happens when an exam retires?

I am going to take the 70-081 exam hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks. I will only need 2 more the MCSE. Let's just say I get really lazy and don't take the 2 exams before the 70-081 retires, does it still count?

Or after I get my MCSE, which will be in Windows 2000, the exam will stay with me until they retire the MCSE 2000?

I wanna say, but I'm not really sure, if an exam retires BEFORE you get your MCSE then it doesn't count towards it. However if you get your MCSE with that exam, and it retires the next day, then you will still be an MCSE. Somebody else might know a little more, but I'm pretty sure thats the way it is though.

I kind of had the same question since 2 of my electives are retiring. I emailed MCPhelp@microsoft.com and here is their direct quote: "This is in response to your e-mail regarding the MCSE requirements. Exams 70-081 and 70-088 will no longer be offered, but will still count towards certification. You will not be required to take any additional elective exams to retain your certification title."

Hope this helps.

You are Correct

Once you pass the exam, it should stay with you and count towards your MCSE. Microsoft has final say in the matter as to what they wish to do with it, but in all of the cases i have seen in the past, it will continue to count even though it isn't offered anymore. as to the retirement of MCSE 2000, i'm sure it will be the same as they did with the NT. Even though they don't offer the MCSE for NT any longer, you still are certified!

Unlike others, microsoft hasn't required a recertification after certain periods. they just retire the exams and come out with new ones for the up to date software.

As for getting lazy, i would suggest knocking out all of your exams as close together as possible if you can afford it. i saw questions from previous exams on all of my exams and found it easier to remember most of it if done together rather than every couple of months. i took all 7 exams within a 6 week period.

hope this helps and answers all of your q's
