Worth The Upgrade??

I have a Compaq Presario 4814 with a 1725 Monitor....and am looking to
prolong its life....Me and my Father Purchased this computer when it
first came out and it set us back $4000.00 ($2000 each)....i kinda hate
to see it go ....would an upgrade be worth it???

Compaq Presario 4814
233mhz Pentium MMX
Windows 98 SE
Quantum Bigfoot 6 Gig HardDrive
96mb of Ram
IOMEGA Zip Drive
Added a HP CD-RW writer 8X/4X/24X and a Maxtor 20 Gig hard drive also

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was thinking about replacing the Case, Motherboard, Processor, Memory,
with the following

Any MidTower Case with 300watt Powersupply ($50)
AMD XP 1700 Processor ($80)
ASUS A7N266-E Motherboard with Integrated Sound , Video , Ethernet($166)
256MB PC 2100 Ram (63.00)
Windows 2000 Professional (Free)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

As This Computer was probably still around the ISA-PCI time....i think
that the Video , Sound are integrated into the Compaq Motherboard....I
know the Network Card is ISA.....So buying this already on the ASUS
board will probably save me some money.....This machine will just be
used for Internet, Burning CD's and E-mail.....Do you think that i will
see a Significant Speed Difference.....and are the Costs of the upgrade
worth prolonging this computer.....or should i just go and Spend $800 on
a DELL??? Curious as to your responses

Re: Worth The Upgrade??

My opinion is to keep the computer for a workstation and just build ur own
computer and network(it's fun)..just use ur old monitor and burner in the
new one and get a 15" for the old one www.pricewatch.com

For under 300.00, you can get another motherboard/cpu combo, try looking at
http://www.pricewatch.com

Buy some better RAM, but keep all the rest..
Even though its tough to let go.
I had to *shudder* let go of using my 8-track player once=)
