Cardbus Trouble with Slack 8.1 (i.e. newer kernels)

I am using an Athelon motherboard, with SiS chipsets. I had installed Red
Hat 7.2, and everything worked fine. Nothing worked after the kenrnel was
upgraded, however. (An upgraded kernel is necessary for this particular
project.)

I installed the current release of Slackware on it (which uses kernel
2.4.18) to no avail. Following some tracing, I discovered in the log
(/var/log/messages):

kernel: options: [pci] [cardbus]
kernel: Intel ISA/PCI/Cardbus PCIC probe:
kernel: no bridges found

I suspect that my problem begins there. I tried adding a line to the
lilo.conf file:

append="biosirq"

That did not change anything. Has anyone else had similar problems? (And
is there a fix?) Does anyone know of any hardware issues with kernels
newer than 2.4.7-10? Thank you.

Ramish
