A: drive search
Whatever I do, there is always something trying to read from a: drive. It
stops in Safe Mode. I can't see no program in the tray or otherwise that
could do that.
Any idea someone?
Thanks!

Has that drive ever worked? If it did, have you installed anything new on
your system or opened any email attachments lately? Have you checked the
cables (this would be my first suspect, cables work loose after a while)?

Re: drive search
Between 'close program' and 'system information' you should be able to
determine what programs are running.
You didn't mention your OS, or when this started happening.

Re: drive search
The OS is Win 98SE
The is no loose cable and otherwise it has been working fine for 2 years.
This is not my computer so I don't know
exactly when and why it started.

Re: drive search
Thanks to you all for your input!
I found the problem.
An accounting software had a: in the path directing to itself. Probably an
old installation from a diskette.
Thanks!

Re: drive search
This happens when a recently used file was on the a: drive. A portion of
the OS looks for the file, and you can delete the references in the registry
to stop the annoyance.
An easier way than using the registry is:
Another cause is an entry in the recent document list, try right
clicking on the task bar, select properties from the pop-up
menu. Then on the dialog box that appears, click on the start menu
programs tab, then click on the clear button, then click OK
or Cancel to get rid of the dialog box.
