MCSA exam next
Having just completed 216 it's time to get a certification so 218 is the next exam.
Any hints, tips or advice for the 218 exam would be most welcome.
Is this a pass/fail exam like 216 and 217?

I just brushed up for two days on my troubleshooting skills for this one ... and looked into IIS at bit more.

Yes, this is a pass/fail only exam.

Hi Wbafrank,
Thanks for the advice and comments, 216 was a mare to be honest, but I'm glad it's over.
Two days brush up? I was planning on three or four weeks revision like I always do, I must be going wrong somewhere!
Pass and fail again huh, no help if you fail is it and need to extend your skills on your weak area's.
Here's to the MCSA shortly then!

This exam is exactly what it states "Managing a MS Windows 2000 Network Environment."
Therefore, you need to know the system inside out so you can fix it. You just have to remember that you are only an administrator and not an enterprise administrator or you could go drastically wrong with this one!!
Out of the 20 MS exams I have taken I found this to be the easiest as I like troubleshooting so get lots of "hands on" and find out what can go wrong ....

Keep climbing the ladder. This 218 exam is straight forward, anyone will tell you that. Basically covers mostly all the materials from the first three cores. 60 questions.
Also strictly pass/fail. If your still good on the materials from the core, these questions will stick out to you

I love troubleshooting, it's why I'm an administrator. Thanks for the tip on administrator/enterprise administrator difference.
I'll just plough through the MS Press book and get loads of hands on like I normally do.
I thought that 216 was as taxing as IIS 4, both exams were frustrating and awkward.
I have 12 MS exams under my belt now. Hopefully, after the final MCSE exam I'll take a look at exchange 2000, ISA and XP before moving on to the CCNA forum.
It's so much better than having a real life, huh?

Hi Cross36, thanks for the advice, how did you find 216?

216 For me took me 6 weeks to prepare for. Frank know I post-poned my exam for a week more of studying. Technet was my guide. 216 I passed with my studying and Frank assisting me in my worries. I owe alot to him

Congrats on the pass of 216! Maybe the RRAS questions just haven't made it to your side of the ocean
Best of luck with 218!

That is a good point
As the majority of people are American or living in the US that start threads, you guys may have a different pool of questions to us in the UK.
That explains why I only had 2 questions on disk configuration in 215 and the threads said that disk configuration gets hit hard.
Same for 216 and RRAS and I spent a week on configuring RRAS on the internal modem and dialling in etc.
Probably something to keep in mind.
Thanks for the congrats.
KScheler, how far have you to go for you MCSA now then?
