MCSE Virtual Lab Simulator
MCSE: Windows 2000 Core Requirements Virtual Lab
Serious about passing the four core Windows 2000 exams? Then you need extensive hands-on experience with Windows 2000 Professional and Windows 2000 Server, experience you can't get with simple evaluation copies set up in a small network lab. You can perform open simulations in conjunction with suggested labs that cover critical exam topics or simply follow along with guided simulations that show you how to perform essential administrative tasks.
- A Realistic Simulation of the Windows 2000 Interface and Functionality
- Can Be Used to Enhance Any MCSE Study Program
- Economical Alternative to Expensive Lab Equipment
- Hundreds of Open and Guided Simulations of Key Administrative Tasks
Is anyone familiar with the above? I just recently ran across it and was wondering if anyone in the forums has tried it already? I don’t know how long it has been out, but I think it could be a great tool for someone who, for whatever reasons, can’t swing a home lab in which to practice.
If anyone has tried the above already, please give some feedback, as I am considering purchasing the product as a supplement to my studies. Even though I have a home lab already setup, there are times at work when I find I have lots of idol time on my hands with nothing better to do except, of course, spend too much time on this forum. I am thinking that this product could possibly enable me to spend some of that idol time a little more, shall we say -- productively, since the product is contained on a CD and is easily transportable? If anyone has worked with this product before, I’d really appreciate your feedback!
For anyone being exposed to this product for the first time, you can click on the following for the only review that I was able to find on the product thus far:
http://www.mcmcse.com/win2k/reviews/sybexlabs.shtml
For those interested in purchasing the product, the following is the best price I have found so far:

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the link. I have not seen this product yet but I know Sybex does put out some good study material. I downloaded the demo but it wouldn't work. I think I may look into it for my classes.
Thanks

I downloaded the demo version also and it works just fine for me. Click on the following link to try again. I don’t know which operating system you’re running, but just in case, users of Windows NT 4 must have the latest service pack installed in order to run the demo version.
http://www.sybex.com/sybexbooks.nsf...enForm&5019Demo
I have worked through all the demo exercises already, and so for I like it very much. In fact, I like it so much I have already ordered it and can’t wait for it to arrive on Monday. I think it’s a very realistic simulation, and if you’re serious about learning this stuff, a very worthwhile investment. Therefore, I will highly recommend it to anyone preparing for the MCSE or MCSA! Whether they have a lab set up or not! At only $113.95 from bookpool.com, it works out to just $28.49 per core. How can you not justify that?
But don’t take my word for it, download the demo version for yourself and see what you think! I’m betting you will think it will be an absolute wonderful enhancement for your students and anyone else preparing for the Microsoft certs.

I'll try again from my office Monday when I get back to work. The failed download attempt was on a W2k server machine behind a proxy. My office doesn't use a proxy so I'll try then. My home dialup is too slow to try to download anything

I just wanted to let you know I received the product right on schedule Monday and already have put in many hours of practice. I like it a lot and think it's excellent!

Great! I contacted Sybex and I believe they will send me a copy for evaluation for my classes. That's one perk of being in the education field, publishers are more than willing to send a free copy of their books if there's a possibility you will adopt it for your classes

I recieved my copy today. It does look like a good product for getting some hands on when you don't have a lab handy.
PS > I was browsing thru some of the labs and noticed that the lab for configuring NAT has some things missing. Watch out for that.
